Struck By Lightning

Lightning struck my computer and also gor my modem.
I have a new computer with Vista and a new modem.
I have now a Sierra 598U and was wondering if there were any tweaks for the modem and systen to help speeds'

Thanks
Dave

Bummer I wondered where you were. We've had a bunch of violent thunderstorms. So far so good. They usually get my directv receivers at leas twice a year.

I won't swear to this, but I think under Vista your options are more limited insofar as tweaking. For example, the RWIN size is one of the more critical factors in determining speed, but I don't think Vista allows you to alter this, whereas XP and other systems do.

You might have a look over at »speedguide.net. They have pretty good on-line analysis tools, as does DSLR right here, but RWIN is one of the variables you can't change, I think. I'd like to see some verification or refutation of this from some Vista users

Correct - RWIN isn't changeable in Vista. I believe Windows 7 is the same way.

I hated that modem.

M u 727 got broke and the gave me the sierra and it sucked compared to u727 so i went on ebay and payed 60 bucks for a u727 and its defently better a little faster and plays xbox live nicely unlike the 598
