Re: [Newsgroups] Searching UseNet Question? What makes the Diffe

sounds like a reasonable explanation.

So any suggestions on why one is better than the others?

I have been using SuperSearch and UsenetServer's Global search for a while. Then I used Newsbin Search the past week and found stuff I have been looking for for a long time but did not show up in the others, using the same search string.

why is Newsbin better? any technical reasons?

Hmm...Let me pose this question to you...Is there any reason why Google, Yahoo or Bing are better search engines that the other? People will argue both sides...but in the end they all have there weaknesses.

Supersearch is great because it allows you to search through just about all groups easily, with custom search parameters and stuff like that....The downfall is, if someone posts something with a cryptic name or something, and you do nto use the right search terms, you may miss it...So Newzbin may be better....but the downside to that is, the reports are compiled and edited by humans, so there is a great deal they miss..especially with the larger groups.

My search process usualyl starts with Supersearch, if I dont find a lot of results..I go to Binsearch.info...and then if still nothing...Newzbin.

If you can't find what you're looking for on one search engine, try a different one because they don't all search the same newsgroups. I recommend you check these out: »Re: Are there any worthy alternatives to Newzbin.com?

Also, I VERY HIGHLY recommend you dump overpriced Giganews and get Astraweb: »Sign up at Astraweb now to pay $11/month for LIFE!

I'm not sure what you’re talking about.. it's my understanding RAW mode is just like searching millions of headers.. lately I've had to go to raw mode a few times with Newzbin cause it usually only hits 70% or 80% whatever their claim numbers is these days

It really is stupid that newzbin doesn't let users report un-indexed posts for the good of everyone.. ahh well maybe they'll be replaced if they lose their court case..

Thats a good point...unfortunately, I do not have a full paid account at Newzbin so I don't have that ability.

That doesn't sound like fun.. I just think there should be a user based submit.. simple..

When I first learned usenet I did everything the old fashion way. It really isn't that difficult if you know what your doing, like you said. Quite fun actually. If all the free nzb sites or even all of them disapppeared I don't think it would be that big of a deal. I just go back to the old fashion way!

Yah, but old fashion way = more work.. I embrace things that make it quick.. we can't go back to the old fashion way.. it's travelling backwards.. but we could use newsgroups to create.. NZB's only.. which probably exist I just haven't looked at e'm.. (not probably heavily used at this time either)

You've heard of nzb newsgroups, right? If so, WHY do you think those will disappear? They are (or could be) entirely independent of any "nzb website"...

i know exactly what a nzb group is, the nzb standard might go away just like torrents might..

What i mean is that the old way of using headers and sorting for your self and not using nzbs..

I know exactly what you mean by by using headers and sorting through them manually. I've been using Usenet off and on since 1986.

Your "might" statements regarding nzb and torrent *files* seem to be more FUD-oriented than anything else.

Yep. It was how usenet was meant to be used that way not everyone and their brother knows how to do it. The more attention a file sharing method gets the worst it is.
