I can't get loopt because my phone doesn't support it, but google latitude does work but from what I've seen of loopt it does the 2 following things I can't get to work with google latitude:

1. link my status and location to twitter and/or facebook
2. ur location is updated to your friends when they request it - not automatically - but on google latitude it seems as though you can either always update or always hide it, no in between.

is there a way to do either with google latitude?
