SSidlov posted : your MTU should be 1500. Cable systems don't use PPoE which is 1496, second, why are you using those addresses? Those are COX's direct IP addresses, are you paying for static IP and is that what they assigned you?

NORMALLY, you have some combination of 192.168.xxx.xxx addresses behind the router which is assigned one of the 68.105.28.xx or whatever series of IP. A SINGLE EXTERNAL IP is assigned to the router.

If you meant that you put these IPs in as DNS servers, it's not required.

I would also check that the cable coming into the modem is tight, and that the signal that the modem is getting is within spec. The information to do this is in the Cox forum.

You could try a line monitor test: »/linequality
--
»www.Warpstock.org

anon posted : My recently installed WRT54GS, Version 6, seems to lose its connection to the internet daily, both through the wired and wireless computers. Unplugging and replugging the wireless router and Motorola Cable Modem SB5101 reestablishes the internet connection. Firmware Version v.1.52.6 is installed on the router, which seems to be the latest currently available version.

I am connected to Cox Internet cable service through a Motorola Surfboard Model 5101 cable modem. We have one computers on-line, connected wireless using WEP 64 bit 10 hex digits encryption. Wireless MAC filter is disabled. SSID name has been changed to a non-Linksys name. I changed the MTU from Auto to Manual and set to 1468, plus filled in these IP'S for the static IP addresses on the basic set up page, 68.105.28.11, 68.105.29.11, 68.105.28.12. All extraneous preferred networks have been deleted from the wireless tab on the properties menu.

When the internet connection is lost the internet on the computer goes down (wired and wireless). Unplugging and replugging reestablishes connections on both (after about a minute delay) without having to reboot the computers.

Please help me so I don't have to do this daily!!!

The Cable Modem is brand new as I upgraded from a 5 year old SB5100, which I thought was the issue
