I wonder if I change to the 25/15 if I'll end up getting 20 up lol...

As far as I can tell, the term "fluff" was first mentioned here: »Re: Any new Speed tiers?
And that seems to refer to the practice of VZ over-provisioning the download speed so that when you do a speed test it shows the d/l speed you signed up for rather than a lower number caused by normal tcp/ip overhead so that folks won't complain that they aren't getting what they are paid for.
Hopefully vzguy1 will confirm but for now I would not assume that this is a gimmick like powerboost.

I know a comparison was made and/or it was mentioned, but it sounded to me like it was something more significant than something compensating for the overhead of TCP/IP.
The overhead of TCP/IP is only about 2.67 %. So for a 25/15 plan, you'd be talking provisioned speeds 25.67 down and 15.4 up.
The 'fluff' seemed like it was something more, but I guess we'll find out Monday when some speed tests start flowing in -- He who is not contented with what he has, would not be contented with what he would like to have. -Socrates

| I'll be curious to see what the price increase is from my 20/20 triple play bundle, currently $99.95/month, to the 35/20 with a triple play bundle. If it is not much, I may get that extra 15 Mbps down. Wished Verizon had upped the ante with Cablevision though and put out a package to compete with OOL Ultra. I'm sure they will eventually. | |

They not going to do 100Mb yet cause of the $300 activaton fee to get the Ultra plan on cable maybe when the fee gets lower then verizon will plan it.

Why wouldn't the 20/20 tier change?
There has to obviously be a price increase for the current 20/5 people to go to 25/15 or else the 20/20 people are getting screwed...

There has to obviously be a price increase for the current 20/5 people to go to 25/15 or else the 20/20 people are getting screwed... There is a $5 to $10/mo increase for bundle customers to jump from 20/5 to 25/15. The amount of the increase varies by area and plan.
Customers with 20/20 are free to change their plan. If you prefer 25/15, you can switch with a call on Monday. Customers always have the freedom to change their tier; customers are never locked into a certain tier.
Some people feel that the extra 5Mbps upload is worth a premium. Others do not. Verizon lets you decide.

Eventually, I think the price will go back down to $99 for the cheapest bundle. When they increased the speeds last year, the $99 bundle was increased in price also. Eventually, it came back down to $99. I think $99/month is a sweet spot for a lot of people and hopefully it will make a come back.

1 edit | Currently, I'm subscribed to the Triple Play Plan, Good Bundle. My internet speed is 10/2 and I pay $99/month. For $10 more, I can subscribe to the Better Bundle and receive more channels as well as a faster internet speed of 20/5.
However, I can wait until Monday, request that I receive the upgrade for $10 more, and receive a speed of 15/5 and no extra channels.
So, let's see:
Upgrade now for +$10/month: internet speed: 20/5 53 more HD channels
Upgrade Monday for +$10/month: internet speed: 15/5 no extra channels
For some of us, this isn't an upgrade, it's a downgrade.
