Looks like the announcement is announced...

»forums.verizon.com/vrzn/board/me···9#M11529

Verizon will be upgrading speeds Starting Monday 6/22

(1) What speeds are available and where?
10/2 -> 15/5 (all service areas)
20/5 -> 25/15 (all service areas)
20/20 -> upgraded to 35/20 in NYC only
50/20 -> No change

(2) Will it be an automatic upgrade? Or will I need to call?
It will not be an Automatic upgrade. It will be just like last year however there may be a pricing change of $5-10 more check with your local Billing rep on for exact amounts. You can reach them through 888-553-1555 and following the billing prompts for a representative.

(3) When can I call and what should I say?
You can call on Monday and ask to be upgraded to the higher speed and rebundle.

(4) How much will the upgrade cost?
The best person to ask would be the Verizon Billing office on Monday. However if you only had internet service and are month to month the upgrade is free since that price hasn't changed. This will also be a 1 year Terms of Service agreement

(5) Can I get the upgrade if have just have an Internet+phone bundle? How about Internet+TV bundles?

you can get the upgrade if you have a bundle or not

==========================================

I'll be calling Monday...

Sorry, mentioning this fluff thing again so any discussion related to it can continue in this thread from the other.

I'm hoping someone from Verizon can definitively explain this "fluff" thing and what it really means. I really hope it's not something like powerboost!

I'm curious to know the details behind this "fluff" too. Sounds to me more like increased overhead or something.

On a side note: Speed tests indicate that I've lost up to 2 mbps only on my download side but upload is the same. What's the deal?

Ever since I got Fios in August of last year I always get 24-25 Mb/s on the upload (20/20 package). My download never goes past 19.7, but the upload gets 25% more than it should.

I wonder if I change to the 25/15 if I'll end up getting 20 up lol...

As far as I can tell, the term "fluff" was first mentioned here: »Re: Any new Speed tiers?

And that seems to refer to the practice of VZ over-provisioning the download speed so that when you do a speed test it shows the d/l speed you signed up for rather than a lower number caused by normal tcp/ip overhead so that folks won't complain that they aren't getting what they are paid for.

Hopefully vzguy1 will confirm but for now I would not assume that this is a gimmick like powerboost.

I know a comparison was made and/or it was mentioned, but it sounded to me like it was something more significant than something compensating for the overhead of TCP/IP.

The overhead of TCP/IP is only about 2.67 %. So for a 25/15 plan, you'd be talking provisioned speeds 25.67 down and 15.4 up.

The 'fluff' seemed like it was something more, but I guess we'll find out Monday when some speed tests start flowing in

Right. No fluff; allowance for TCP overhead.

No I do get fluff depending on the day of the week. I never get higher than 4800 on the upload and on the download I often get 22,000 but on average - my readings are close to yours and I am on PPPoE.

I think its only for new tiers like 25/15 and like 35/20 for the fluff.

also to the others THERE is not automatic upgrades you have to call to process or get the tier.

I'll be curious to see what the price increase is from my 20/20 triple play bundle, currently $99.95/month, to the 35/20 with a triple play bundle. If it is not much, I may get that extra 15 Mbps down. Wished Verizon had upped the ante with Cablevision though and put out a package to compete with OOL Ultra. I'm sure they will eventually.

They probably competing with boost users that is 30/5 tier.

They not going to do 100Mb yet cause of the $300 activaton fee to get the Ultra plan on cable maybe when the fee gets lower then verizon will plan it.

I wonder if I can downgrade my second tier down to first tier.

I believe when I started, my second tier was 15/2 or something and now their first tier is 15/5.

I don't need 25/15.

That doesn't even make sense...

Why wouldn't the 20/20 tier change?

There has to obviously be a price increase for the current 20/5 people to go to 25/15 or else the 20/20 people are getting screwed...

There is a $5 to $10/mo increase for bundle customers to jump from 20/5 to 25/15. The amount of the increase varies by area and plan.

Customers with 20/20 are free to change their plan. If you prefer 25/15, you can switch with a call on Monday. Customers always have the freedom to change their tier; customers are never locked into a certain tier.

Some people feel that the extra 5Mbps upload is worth a premium. Others do not. Verizon lets you decide.

Over here in Edmonds, WA, I'm currently subscribed to the Triple Play Plan for $99/month. My internet speed is 10/2. I called them and asked how much it would cost to get the upgrade to 15/5, and they said that it will cost an extra $10/month.

I was so hoping that it was going to be for free, oh well.

I also have the 10/2 in my triple play. They won't upgrade you to the new minimum speed of 15/5 for free!?! Well that ticks me off. I was planning to call on Monday for the "free upgrade" after reading these posts over the past several days. That's what I get for listening to rumor and speculation.

Well, the price differs from state to state. So, you just might be lucky. Furthermore, the person I spoke to said that the prices were "tentative," but I didn't ask for an explantion.

Yeah, we are in different markets, so I shouldn't jump the gun. I'll just have to be one of many DSLR readers that clog the VZ phone lines on Monday.

I am going to be curious to read some experiences of those trying to call VZ on Monday. My guess is earlier adopters will have a longer wait that those that stood on line for the iPhone 3G last year.

Good luck with getting through.

I'm gonna go for that and try for the netbook, too. I don't mind extending the contract as I am very satisfied with the service.

It's for new subscribers.

I tried to get it on with a chat associate. Alas, it's only for new subs. Oh, well...

"Parker" told me via chat I was not eligible to get the netbook since I had the "Triple Play,"...

During the chat session, "Parker" ran off and didn't come back when I asked if it was possible to extend my contract and pay $99 for the laptop...

Awww, man!

We'll see how it goes tomorrow.

Eventually, I think the price will go back down to $99 for the cheapest bundle. When they increased the speeds last year, the $99 bundle was increased in price also. Eventually, it came back down to $99. I think $99/month is a sweet spot for a lot of people and hopefully it will make a come back.

There is no 30/15 plan. You can only switch to one of the tiers mentioned in the first post.

I've been told that in Hampton Roads Market the bundle price will be going up to $119/month for Extreme HD and the 25/15 Internet.

$10 more for a 5 meg increase in download speed? No thanks.

I'm leaning that way, myself.

As it stands, I'm okay with 10/2, but if I can wangle a netbook into the deal, I have no problem banging VZ into a two-year deal. Shit, I'm even willing to PAY $99 for it. I've test-driven the Compaq, and it's fast as quicksilver, and is exactly what I'm looking for.

I just want the comp delivered to my door.

Currently, I'm subscribed to the Triple Play Plan, Good Bundle. My internet speed is 10/2 and I pay $99/month. For $10 more, I can subscribe to the Better Bundle and receive more channels as well as a faster internet speed of 20/5.

However, I can wait until Monday, request that I receive the upgrade for $10 more, and receive a speed of 15/5 and no extra channels.

So, let's see:

Upgrade now for +$10/month:
internet speed: 20/5
53 more HD channels

Upgrade Monday for +$10/month:
internet speed: 15/5
no extra channels

For some of us, this isn't an upgrade, it's a downgrade.

Boo. I thought 25/15 was going to be the same $55 price as the 20/5 had been. With that being $65, I'm gonna stay on the bottom tier, though I'll be calling to get the bump to 15/5.
