Re: Looks like the announcement is announced...

Sorry, mentioning this fluff thing again so any discussion related to it can continue in this thread from the other.

I'm hoping someone from Verizon can definitively explain this "fluff" thing and what it really means. I really hope it's not something like powerboost!

I'm curious to know the details behind this "fluff" too. Sounds to me more like increased overhead or something.

On a side note: Speed tests indicate that I've lost up to 2 mbps only on my download side but upload is the same. What's the deal?

Ever since I got Fios in August of last year I always get 24-25 Mb/s on the upload (20/20 package). My download never goes past 19.7, but the upload gets 25% more than it should.

I wonder if I change to the 25/15 if I'll end up getting 20 up lol...

As far as I can tell, the term "fluff" was first mentioned here: »Re: Any new Speed tiers?

And that seems to refer to the practice of VZ over-provisioning the download speed so that when you do a speed test it shows the d/l speed you signed up for rather than a lower number caused by normal tcp/ip overhead so that folks won't complain that they aren't getting what they are paid for.

Hopefully vzguy1 will confirm but for now I would not assume that this is a gimmick like powerboost.

I know a comparison was made and/or it was mentioned, but it sounded to me like it was something more significant than something compensating for the overhead of TCP/IP.

The overhead of TCP/IP is only about 2.67 %. So for a 25/15 plan, you'd be talking provisioned speeds 25.67 down and 15.4 up.

The 'fluff' seemed like it was something more, but I guess we'll find out Monday when some speed tests start flowing in

That's normal for the 20X5 tier.

I think its only for new tiers like 25/15 and like 35/20 for the fluff.

also to the others THERE is not automatic upgrades you have to call to process or get the tier.

Right. No fluff; allowance for TCP overhead.

No I do get fluff depending on the day of the week. I never get higher than 4800 on the upload and on the download I often get 22,000 but on average - my readings are close to yours and I am on PPPoE.

Where are you located? "Fluff" may be somewhat area dependent!
