It sounds like he installed a splitter. The inline phone filters are low pass filters that block out the higher frequency ASDL signals from going to the phone circuits. The splitter contains both low pass and high pass filters that separate the 2 signals. The only way to fly IMHO.

It sounds like he removed a bridged tap. When the installer drops a service to your house, he is supposed to (but doesn't always) disconnect the line that carries on. It is not that it is connected to anyone else; it simply acts as a antenna that picks up unwanted noise.

Just for clarity on the subject, I placed my little digital camera on the devices after a couple of disconnects. I knew it was going to happen again.

power light stays on and green. all of the other lights go out.

Telus support came by and redid what the previous support did, and a little more.

He took out the little old grey box and placed the line into the newer of the grey boxes with a filter. separated the line so that the line going to the modem is dedicated adsl. I don't need to run the filters anymore. I won't be able to see how he did as I am at work.

He also went onto the street and removed the one 'T'. So whoever else is on that line should have better service as well.

He, like the previous tech, said that everything should be fine. I believe him...lol

the siemens both would appear to lose all lights sans power. Unsure if there is power being lost to it.

it boots back up and connects almost right away. I have turned off 2 of 4 computers to narrow down interference.

Are you losing sych (check the DSL and internet lights)?
Does it do this when you're plugged into the LAN?
If it does not, is the wireless dropping on other computers?

If it's turning on and off by itself, check the power cord, is it damaged at all? Are the connections firm?
If it's losing sych, does it re-sych after you reboot it? Check the phone cable going to wall, is it damaged at all? How long is it (needs to be less than 10 ft)? could something from one of the computers cause the set to reset?

is there something on the line that could cause it to reset?

I should also mention that they increased the overhead limit so that it wouldn't top out. I am paying for 15 and they have it set at 22 just in case.

I had a conflict of rebooting when the wireless would scan for a new channel. It should of gotten to Silicon heaven a long time ago.

Otherwise call support and ask for a Thomson modem. And get your own better performing router.

Is there something that will stop the modem from doing this?
