| [policy and politics] Outgoing email port using OE and Verizon
Hi
Is there a new port that we are supposed to use? If there is, then I have a problem because Norton's Antivirus only scans outgoing email from port 20 I believe is the number or is it 25, I don't remember now. If I use the new port number, then Norton's won't scan it and they won't send the email out. What do I do? |

Verzion's settings:
SMTP outgoing.verizon.net NEW port: 587 POP3 incoming.verizon.net port: 110
IMHO, If you scan incoming mail and you system is clean, and you do a monthly (weekly) system scan with norton, then I would disable outgoing mail scans. Just scan incoming mail.
If you want to really give your system a speed boost, get another AV program. No Norton (aka Symantec)...again my opinion. -- Politics is a business. It's all about the money! |

My mail is working perfectly using the typical ports of pop-110 and smtp-25?

Don't get McAfee either!!

| I suggest Avast! as the anti-virus software, with Spybot Search and Destroy and Windows Defender as anti-spy/anti-malware. If you have Vista or Windows 7, UAC helps too. -- It's all fun and games in a Team Fortress 2 battle until your sentry gun is sapped by the Spycrab! |

2 edits | My email works ok with port 25 for outgoing also. Symantec is much better this year also. I am having a problem of getting my emails to my friend who uses q.com since Wed. night. So far I have gotten 2 bounced email notices. I checked with Verizon and there is no problems with my email using OE. My emails are going out ok. The problem seems to be with q.com accepting them. I don't know anyone else with a q.com email addy so I don't know if others are having this problem. I have no way of contacting this person other than by email. Does any one know anyone who uses q.com email and if they can send emails to Verizon people.? I think it's a problem between q.com and windows live hotmail. I know that q.com uses windows live hotmail as their email servers. |

You might want to check out this Verizon Announcement, dated 6/19.

| I have switched my outgoing email port to 587. I think people are still getting my emails, but I still don't know about that one person who uses q.com. I got an email from him last night with that account, but it was just a picture and he didn't mention any thing about receiving my emails to him. I've sent several emails asking if he got them. I just don't know if he's getting my emails. I haven't gotten any more bounced back notices, but they could take days to get to me also. Sometimes they try to deliver it for 4 days and then after failing, they send out the one email about it. Since it isn't the standard port for outgoing email, my emails aren't getting scanned now by my antivirus program. A few people said they got my email since I changed ports, but I don't know about the others yet. I had seen that announcement also, but the bounce notices were from emails sent out before the 19th, like from the 17th and 18th. |
