| Slower Speeds for more Usage Threshold
I for one would take a slower connection with a bigger "bucket" any day.Why drive a Porsche if you cannot drive the speed limit?
Got a "phantom" download, got Fapped in 2 hours.Been waiting 28 hours to reset, but still in the red.I check my email and such and the usage page reflects this.Hughes told me to turn it off for 2 more hours.I say bull crap.I cannot even say what was supposed to have been downloaded,I am not stupid enough to download during the none "free" hours.I am a I.T. guy so I know what to look for.I have no viruses no Malware etc.Auto updates is off on ALL apps but my Anti virus software and it updated and was only 24 mb.
This on top of my usage page being screwed up for 4 months.Missing Hours,double posts etc. -- HN9000w/Pro Plan,Linksys WRT54G,Lots Of PC's.3 dogs,2 cats,2 fish,one rabbit.one wife,two kids,no life.:) |

| reply to Tweakbl The bad thing is....this is the first time since I got Hughesnet that I cannot explain the Fap Violation.I have had Hughesnet for 9 months or since 09/23/2008. I have only went over like 5 times. This was totally unexpected as its been several months since my last Fap.
Got off the phone with "tech" (used very loosely) support (rolling and laughing hysterically now) .Their answer was,"turn it all off for a few more hours". Who'd a thunk a that?So here you are paying a huge amount of cash, and they say "turn it off".Sure thing,I will send you a blank check to.
I still think a slower connection and a bigger threshold would be better. You can do alot more on a slower connection if you have the bigger threshold, sure it may take a bit longer but think of it this way,the slow connection would refill at the same rates as what is available now,the slower speed would seemingly be a sort of imposed throttle for the entire connection, system wide and the larger threshold would give a greater cushion for those that have a "normal" browsing habit. Also it would be a good thing for Hughesnet....why?Because the majority of the calls and emails they get is FAP related.

| reply to Tweakbl Man, I thought I might have screwed up accidentally. I never download big stuff except during FAP-free period. Glad to know I'm not the only one who got a "phantom" download. It took the most part of 24 hours, with 'puter mostly off except to check my FAP status, to get out of jail. If any HughesNet folks are lurking out there, this is something wrong that needs to be fixed pronto. And don't tell me to call customer support, I tried that once many moons ago -- utterly worthless, total waste of my time. -- HN9000 Spaceway III Home Plan, iMac PPC G5 10.4.11, Trendnet wireless |

| Rick I know you are on a Mac but the looks suspiciously like a vista sp2 update.
Just for fun have you ever tried poking in SANs for a few numbers above and below yours.
You might be surprised.
Considering the satellite path and all it would not surprise me if the data was corrupted and you got billed for someone else's download.
Proving it near impossible. it seems to be worse on the wildblue side. -- 9000 spaceway III, 7000S SatMex 5 990, Dlink wirless |

| reply to Tweakbl Rick my son got the same update on his mac at the same time. One day on his desktop and a couple of days later on his imac. Both times we were FAped. He is not home now and I am not sure what it was as I am not a Mac guy. He did say that he had auto updates turned off in one area but there are other updates that still loaded automatically. He disabled them and now good. If you need help I will get more info when he gets home.

| reply to newman44 Hi Newman. In my 14 years of Mac experience I've never known them to push an update without their asking and my confirming it in the Software Update window. Plus I searched my drive high and low for any visible or invisible files, new or modified on that date and could find nothing even close to 260 megabytes individually or collectively. I'd very much appreciate knowing what your son did to disable any and all auto updates, thanks in advance. Rick -- HN9000 Spaceway III Home Plan, iMac PPC G5 10.4.11, Trendnet wireless |

| reply to RickT Also if you go look on preferences on software update you can check a box that states "Download important updates in the background" if you check that it will download them without asking then only install when told. So there is somewhat of an automatic process. There were some downloads last week. I chose to download one at a time. |

| reply to Tweakbl Hi I talked with junior and he said you go into settings then update section and then uncheck take important updates automatically. I am not a Mac guy so please excuse my dumbness on this. His updates showed on the Mac that they downloaded the same time as the big download in the Hughesnet usage page and Fap.

 Update Preferences |
Hi rjgogo and Newman, Checked my preferences and as you can see the only way Software Update will load is if I ask it to manually. Plus, I do all of my updates via stand-alone packages that I can schedule with my download manager for the FAP-free period. Thanks for the help, right now to me it still looks like I got screwed with a "phantom" download?! -- HN9000 Spaceway III Home Plan, iMac PPC G5 10.4.11, Trendnet wireless
PS: Over in the Datastorm Forum Newt Perdue recently posted:
quote: Is there anything to put on your computer that might monitor the outgoing or incoming files and destinations? I was fap'd today with NO CLUE how over 325 mbytes was downloaded. I have checked all computers, but can't do it well.
It'd be great to have something that runs on each computer that would list all the file traffic at the HTTP and FTP levels.

1 edit | reply to Tweakbl hi the last update was June 10 on his desk top. The time and day we got FAped. It looks like it was an airport update. My son has the time capsule and he suspects it was a wireless update for that.

| reply to newman44 Hi Newman, thanks and thanks to your son too. I don't use an Airport base station for wireless, and all of my associated software is still dated from when I originally installed the OS a few years ago, i.e., no updates. -- HN9000 Spaceway III Home Plan, iMac PPC G5 10.4.11, Trendnet wireless |

| reply to rjgogo Hi rjgogo, I use a beta version of Download Queue, the author pulled it from the market several months ago because of a minor bug. I've emailed him to see if I may share the installer, and if he will still send a license (~$20) or if I may share mine. I'll let you know as soon as I hear back. -- HN9000 Spaceway III Home Plan, iMac PPC G5 10.4.11, Trendnet wireless |
