| Pay for Elite but always drops back to Pro speed OK experts, I need some advice here...
I pay for Elite. I get about 5.1 mbps then it will drop off to about 2.5 mbps. I called support, they walked me through the script (I hate that) so they had me unplug modem and router, then plug modem back in then router. OK that gets me back to 5 mbps. The next day, I get up, its back to 2.5 mbps.
What can I do to get it to hold at least 5 mbps? Any info is appreciated.
Thanks! | |

Yea, I have a router. I'll try what the link says to do.
Thanks! | |

| Re: Pay for Elite but always drops back to Pro speed That goes all the way to your public IP address now and the data looks OK.
Once you get sorted out how to get the stats, do the following: 1) Unplug the modem from the ac line and the phone line. 2) Let it sit for 10 minutes. 3) Plug both lines back in. 4) As soon as you have a connection to the internet run a Line Quality Test, get the stats from the modem, run a speed test and post all that back here.
Then, when the speed goes back down, do all of step 4 again.

| Re: Pay for Elite but always drops back to Pro speed In that 8 hour period, you moved about 34000 packets from the internet into your machine. Of those, you got 9964 error packets. That is probably what caused your modem to downgrade your max speed from 6016 to 3008. You need to determine what is causing that.
There are several FAQ articles in the AT&T fora that discuss what causes these errors, how to determine what is causing your problem, and how to fix the problem.

| That would be the Motorola 2210. Different firmware is issued in AT&T Southeast, and the former SBC footprint. Try this:
»192.168.1.254
If you have a router, you may need to disconnect from the router and connect directly to the modem. You should get the basic modem GUI, with a series of blue and gray buttons down the left side of the page. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum

| Re: Pay for Elite but always drops back to Pro speed I talked to a buddy here at work a few minutes ago. He's a former ATT'er and knows alot about DSL. He says he thinks my modem is bad. It is a Motorola modem that I got back in December. They had to replace my old Speedstream modem that I had since 2000. Thanks for the link! | |

| Re: Pay for Elite but always drops back to Pro speed On June 12th, I replaced my original modem (a SpeedStream 5260) that had worked rock solid since I first got DSL a number of years ago ... replaced it with the latest Motorola from ATT ... AND I still have a speed issue ... see my post in this same forum regarding the chronology of the issue.
So don't spend the extra $49 or so for a new one until you're absolutely sure that the modem is the problem ... at least that's my 2 cents.

Funny thing is I replaced my Speedstream back in December with a new Motorola. However, I recently noticed my speed falling off. I bet we're having the same issue.
Folks on here have been very helpful!

| OK, when I reset the modem last night. I was back above 5 mbps last night. I tried again this morning and it is still above 5.
I have tried to logon to the modem several times using the specified IP address and I can't get connected. It keeps giving me a page load error 'The server at 192.168.1.254 is taking too long to respond.' I'll keep trying.
So for now I'm good but I don't understand why I can't logon to the modem? I connected directly to it.
Here's a line test I ran last night after I reset the modem and was back above 5 mbps.

Again, thanks for the help. I really appreciate it.

But, we need to see the stats from the modem. I'm thinking it's getting enough errors that it is "training down". But we won't know until we see its stats.

| Re: Pay for Elite but always drops back to Pro speed That's only if the Modem is in Bridge mode. I was just suggesting that, since you weren't able to connect to the modem's GUI. If you have a router, and it is handling the PPPoE authentication, then the modem is probably in Bridge mode. -- Got a Clark,Crown,Drexel forklift and need technical advice? Ask me about it. | |

| Re: Pay for Elite but always drops back to Pro speed Yea, I am using a router to handle PPPoE. However, last night, I had it connected directly to my PC and was using a new network connection on the PC to handle PPPoE. Tonight, when I get home, I will connect directly to the modem again, reset it, then try it again. Thank you.
