Waterford, PA | [general] Need video using Wildblue I would like to see video (and hear audio) of my new grandson on my computer using my Wildblue connection. DSL is not available. I read that there my be problems using Skype. What do other Wildblue users use for this application? Thanks! | |

1 edit | Re: [general] Need video using Wildblue Why not have them save the video in windows movie maker or some other program and email it to you. That way you cold watch it over and over and save it for later years if you wanted to.

At this time, we do not transport VoIP traffic on the WildBlue network. This includes internet-based phone systems or voice connections over an instant messenger application.
The short answer is "no," you can't use internet telephony on WB (or the other satellite service, for that matter) due to the delays in the time it takes the signal to travel back and forth.

The real reason is the packet shaping employed by Wildblue which includes a DAMA scheduler and their refusal to give priority to VOIP packets. Reports have indicated that VOIP works well with some tolerable delay over Telesat, the Canadian version of Wildblue, who gives priority to VOIP packets. Since Wildblue has decided to prevent VOIP and probably live 2-way video from working, I agree with you Marykayeee: I would cancel Wildblue if I had a non-satellite option for Internet access. In the end their high price for slow speeds and limited usage may cause me to bail out even without a substitute.

| If you hate wildblue simply cancel it.
There are numerous satellite providers that will provide you with all the voip that you want you just got to be willing to pay for it. There ain't no free lunch.
