reply to hacked

Re: internet line drops almost everyday

said by hacked:

... the router jus has to be setup with pppoe and it shud be fine. however this does work but int stops working after a few hours anyway.

edit: tech staff jus mentioned u r on the edge of the network and therefore sometimes it will drop but its every 4 or 5 days and it shud be for a few seconds. i did mention it drops almost everyday and its for 30 mins to 1 hour. he said tht shudnt happen but did not say y its happening for tht long and tht frequently
It is in your own best interest to make every effeort to communicate with the most clarity and precision that you can, when trying to get technical help from people with knowledge, but who must rely on your words as the only source of information.

How can anyone (other than you) understand your meaning of:

it drops almost everyday and its for 30 mins to 1 hour

Does the problem go away by itself?

Since you suggest that the modem's DSL light never goes off, your "distance" would seem irrelevant to your problem.

But, of course, if you use words like "internet line drops", how is one to know that you mean something entirely different from what those words appear to mean?

It seems to me that your problem is almost certainly related to your own local application usage and configuration.

But there is no harm in:

Learning how to get your basic stats from your modem, such as
DSL-uptime
Sync rates
Line capacity (aka RCO aka theoretical max rates)
Attenuation, SNRM
Error rates

This happens to my connection too, almost everyday.

But only on my wireless connection.

I had Bell before and this never happened, I am using speedtouch 516 connecting to a linksys wireless & wired router.
