| [Home Network] 2wire modem/router question
Ok so I'm getting new equipment called 2wire which as an att tech explained is a modem/router in one device with wireless capabilities.
I'm buying this to hook up a nintendo wii to be able to go online. Am I going to need the computer turned on to get this connection to the wii? And also, has anyone experienced any trouble with this device + nintendo wii? Also my wii is two rooms away (there's a bathroom in the middle of these 2 rooms and I live in a 14x80 trailer.. so yeah, the walls shouldn't block any signals) |

1 edit | You should not need your computer turned on to connect to the 2wire modem/router with your wii. You will need to connect to the 2wire with your computer initially in order to setup your AT&T account and to enter your username/password into the 2wire device for PPPoE authentication.
I do not use the 2wire device or a wii, and so I can't say for sure, but you may need to also connect to the 2wire with your computer to setup port mapping. All I can say about that is if you have problems, come back here and I am sure that someone has been there, done that, and can provide some specific advice.
As for the wireless signal being blocked by the walls, that could depend on the composition of the walls. Metal walls might very well block the WiFi signal. -- A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. »portscan.dcs-net.net »nature-pics.com |

2 edits | Also I may as well add that I asked if they had plans for higher dsl speed and the tech pretty much said that yes they have plans for 10mbps dsl which he thinks will be available near the end of 2009 (will probably be announced in january 2010). I asked if the price would be what it is right now for the top speed (6 mbps) and he simply said he wasn't sure.
I suspect that they will do away with the "AT&T High Speed Internet Basic" as it's called here »www.att.com/gen/general?pid=10934 thus making the 1.5 Mbps plan the new "lite" plan. |

| Actually, I don't think that you can get the 768/384 kbps "AT&T High Speed Internet Basic" plan now (if you can, you are posting in the wrong forum). That plan is for the legacy SBC area. The 768/128 kbps "lite" plan for the legacy BellSouth area is described here: »www.bellsouth.com/consumer/inets···de=BISFL -- A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. »portscan.dcs-net.net »nature-pics.com |

(the settings haven't been changed yet, I don't know how to just yet lol) I setup the Wii with a WEP security connection. But instead of connecting it to the 2wire, I have it connected to an A/P sitting just beside it. |

| Oh, I almost forgot to mention, they sent me the wrong one the first time (it was another netopia modem which I already had one to begin with...) So I call them & tell them they sent the wrong one. They issue me a RMA label to slap on the box to give to UPS so they can return it, well the RMA label wasn't printable until the next morning... and also I told them that while im waiting on this label to go ahead & ship the 2wire (which arrived the next day .) They said "your bill is going to be $119.86 but when you get your bill just call us back and tell us that you returned the other modem to get credit back". Now really... why do I have to call them back when I get my bill... can't they just edit that I've returned it in whatever software that they use? |
