In older days, they used a "ELK/" prefix in front of the email address that has been discontinued and some older systems they allowed only the username without the "@Earthlink.net" or "@Mindspring.com" Domain suffix that is now required. Can't think of anything else unless you added a "service name" which is supposed to be left blank on Earthlink DSL.

Your assistance to so many in this forum is indeed appreciated. Yes, Service Name should always be left blank because EL (or their provider aka Covad, AT&T, Qwest) may change the Access Concentrator that you connect to/connect through at any time without warning or notice. That's why it is an optional field and by keeping it blank you can connect to any Access Concentrator that advertises services on the VC (Virtual Circuit) you are configured for. VPI/VCI settings are the two values that create the VC you connect to at the DSLAM.

HUH? The ZyXEL Routers I have used and even the Earthlink Supplied ZyXEL units all have a settings page for VPI/VCI in the DSL Modem or the PPPoE would not work.

I don't know what model you have but this is from a P-662HW/HW-D. Go to page 85, section 5.4.
