neonhomer posted : Definitely sounds like the HD controller went south. Had it happen on a older ASUS board from a few years ago, and had almost the same problem. HD would be recognized for a few seconds, and then not be there. Only way to get it to come back was to clear the CMOS (I had a jumper block on mine), and then it would see it.

rflack50 posted : I went through the bios, swapped out all the parts including cables, hard drives, psu, etc. I even pulled the board out of the case and tested it with bare minimum parts with no change. The tech support at XFX is having me RMA the board, so hopefully they can troubleshoot it.

My brother took pity on me, and gave me his old Gigabyte GA-59SLI-S5 motherboard. I installed it in my case with all the same parts that I had in the XFX build. It now works fine again.
--
When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us.
Helen Keller

rflack50 posted : Each time I reset the cmos (remove the battery and let it sit) I restart and end up at the AMI screen and it shows the hard drive. Then it goes to the bios and the hard drive is no longer seen. I tried this with several hard drives and it's always the same thing.

Per XFX customer support I have tried setting the mb on the non static bag, and removing everything but the cpu, and memory. It goes to a screen that says Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key. Since I don't have a boot device I can't do it. I then added back the hard drive and end up with the AMI screen not showing the hard drive, and bios not showing it either. I reset the cmos and it shows the hard drive in the AMI screen, but not in the bios.

This is driving me crazy.
--
When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us.
Helen Keller

rflack50 posted : I did that and it does the same thing once the hard drive is hooked up. I have a feeling it's the board. Per XFX I removed the battery and let it sit for atleast 2 minutes to clear the cmos. No jumpers necessary for this process. I have reset the cmos several times with no affect.
--
When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us.
Helen Keller

FileShackOrg posted : please try and just turn on the system with only the power supply motherboard and video card inserted. bare minimum setup only. also try and see if you can find some clear cmos jumpers on the board itself they will be small and look like to steel spikes sticking up that you normally would touch a screwdriver to when booting up the computer.

rflack50 posted : Thats kind of what I have been thinking too, but wasn't real sure. It's still under warranty, and I have a ticket with tech support at FXF, so hopefully they will come to the same conclusion soon.

Thank you
--
When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us.
Helen Keller

rflack50 posted : I have the XFX 8200 motherboard with:

AMD 64 x4800 processor
2x 1024 Corsair PC6400
Ultra LS600 power supply
Seagate 500GB serial ata
Seagate 160GB serial ata
LG DVDRW

Everything was running fine for about 7-8 months, and then yesterday it crashed. I restarted it and it gets to the post screen giving me the option to display post, or go into Bios. I went into the bios and it shows no hard drives.

So, I swapped out hard drives, and same thing. I changed the cables, and same thing. I swapped out power supply, same thing. I used parts from another computer that is running, so I know that they work. I reset the cmos (pulled battery and let sit for 30min), I reset bios, tried secondary bios, and still won't show the hard drive. I even tried swapping out ram, but same thing. Any ideas would be helpfull.
--
When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us.
Helen Keller
