 This won't pass

Conservatives are hanging by a thread. There is no way in hell this will become law. There will be elections come this fall and the project will fall.

Don't count on it. Maybe your government will contact Dick Cheney for advice on creating your own "9/11". After that, it's all over.

Yeah - and Obama states that his government is transparent.

It'll get slid in before elections, and whatever new regime there is, they won't change it enough to make a difference.

It's not meant to pass, it's meant to be a fall election issue. Nothing more nothing less. On top of that, for those that understand how law enforcement works in Canada, in order to tap private communications like that you need a thing called a "privacy act warrant" which is nearly impossible to get, because the police have to be able to prove that all accessible avenues of information gathering have already been expended.

Besides, you should be more worried that the companies themselves will abuse it. Much like they have in Europe and the EU, selling information to the highest bidder.
