Not exactly, but in that Kodachrome as in reality overly minorly warm, a minor warm filter could give somewhat of the effect., if it doesn't over power/tint the cool colors.
And why so many early on had an aversion to Ektachrome being too cool, now seen as relatively actually neutral.Especially compared to digital with electronic actual WB... no doubt about it Kodachrome was unnaturally warm. (even true whites were warm)
Though what made it so great for portraits, fall foliage and things like that. Which we can now all do EASLILY in post if that is really the effect we want, vs neutral color and true white. -- »haywardm.com (Hayward's Key West)

1 edit | reply to Splitpair That slideshow almost made me cry. I don't care what technology you have hooked to your glass, that stuff is in a class of its own (and I remember most of those shots). |

I have seen it mentioned that one of the attractions professionals had of Kodachrome was its archival abilities.
And yes they where on to something.
The top shot is as scanned, the rest have been cleaned up a bit and all where shot on Kodachrome as marked on the holder.
These slides came from my parents collection and where stored by myself under less than ideal conditions for a number of years before being scanned to digital about five years ago, now the child in the photos is yours truly and I'm in my mid fifties so that should give you an idea of the age of those slides.
While the colors have shifted and faded a little when compared to what print of the same age stored under the same conditions would look like they are in great shape. Kodachrome was in its day and still is an amazing technology.

| reply to Splitpair And if you happen to still have some Kodachrome on hand the only lab in the U.S. that can process Kodachrome Dwayne's Photo will be processing it through 2010.

mine too. i've a many a roll.. and use to pack it myself from 500 shot rolls Where they 500 shot or 100 foot rolls?
I used bulk Tri-X and I thought it came in 100 foot rolls, but that was many moons ago so I could be incorrect.
I dabbled in Kodachrome but it was pricey once developing was included and required a lab to process so I pretty much stuck with B&W which I could process and print.
Another thing I liked about B&W was there was also something almost sensual about seeing a print develop in the tray and deciding just when thats it and then quickly sliding it into the stop bath to lock the shot.

4 edits | reply to Splitpair said by Splitpair :Where they 500 shot or 100 foot rolls? Surprised they actually (and not for a long time now) had bulk Kodachrome rolls.... and yes I would guess stsandard 100 ft) I don;t thinkthough Kodachrome ever had a self processing option.... and again why Ektachrome thought too cool (toned) for some took over.... it could be self processed, and cheap quick drug/cam store processed.. EVen decades ago Kodachrome had to go to a cam store and sent off to Kodak or who knows where.
While not as complex as tri neg Technicolor....Kodachrome far from simple, and chemically near as complex, ... definately NOT DIY.

Fact of the real matter it was just too slow, but probably the finest grain color film ever if you could deal with the slow speed application. -- »haywardm.com (Hayward's Key West)
