Switching from 645 to 660 modem?

How hard is it to do? Can I just plug in and go so to speak? Any advantages or disadvantages?

Re: Switching from 645 to 660 modem?

You should be able to swap them out without changing anything if:

* You aren't bridging
AND
* You are using DHCP

The 660 handles multiple data streams and faster speeds much better than the 645.

Re: Switching from 645 to 660 modem?

Its almost like plug and play!
just plug in to AC outlet, and off you go with wireless or plug you ethernet cable in and off you go!
fun huh?

Re: Switching from 645 to 660 modem?

Make sure to use the new ethernet cable some 645s came with a crossover cable and not a standard cat5 cable, as well use the new power cord and your set.

Re: Switching from 645 to 660 modem?

Is it true that the 660's have issues with services like XBOX LIVE?

Re: Switching from 645 to 660 modem?

The 660's do not have UPnP enabled by default. Enable it and then the Xbox live issue is fixed. Make sure you check all 3 boxes on the UPnP screen and hit apply.

The easiest swap is if the OP IS bridged - then the modem is almost irrelevant.

Re: Switching from 645 to 660 modem?

If I remember correctly, the default condition on the modem is routed, however...if the OP is routed and DHCP, it truly is plug and play.
