In my area(Nothern VA) Comcast charges $52.95 for the 20mbs tier, $62.95 for the 30mbs tier, and $100 for the 50mbs tier.
FIOS charges me $90 for their 50mbs tier. Plus all the FIOS tiers have a much faster upload speed than Comcast. |

Sorry but all us former Comcast customers know those speeds are complete sham. They're theoretical to start and no customer ever sees them in real life and that's before the prime time slowdowns when the shared lines are under heaviest use - assuming the services is actually even available.
My FIOS line however tests at or above advertised speed 24/7 365.
Three years now with FIOS and not a single day of down time. |

Comparing Comcast/cable to FIOS in this manner is a waste of time. Nobody ever gets anywhere near the speeds Comcast/cable claims and they'll just keep throwing out bigger and bigger numbers out to suck in customers.
The technology is what it is and there's no getting around it and cable is an inferior technology no matter what outlandish claim the cablecos are making on a given day.
Had them all, had DSL, had Comcast cable have FIOS and FIOS beats them hands down in every way and by big margins. |

I was under that same false impression and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. Comcast really got their act together. I NEVER see a slowdown even during peak times it always test at over 23Mbps down, 4Mbps up. So stop fooling yourself that FIOS is the only provider out there.
FIOS (which is still not available in the nation's capital except for a single condo building) is late to the party.
FIOS lost. Comcast won. |

Actually I don't have PowerBoost provisioned on my speed tier (I am only paying $25 a month). Speed stays consistent the entire time and does not drop off. So yes I really am getting above my tier and not with PowerBoost.
This is typical for Comcast here in DC. It may be different in other areas. I have Comcast Business at work and it also does not appear to use PowerBoost. In fact I was told that we are getting Docsis 3 for the same price and that the connection will go as fast as the modem will currently go (around 33Mbps down, 4Mbps up). Comcast told me if I wanted faster than that all I would have to do is upgrade to a newer modem.
So to put it in another way, I get this speed at work and and home ALL THE TIME.
FIOS? It won't be rolled out here until 2014. So I think that puts FIOS speed at 0. |

There were no kickback negotiations, unless you mean Verizon's unwillingless to wire poor areas of the District. Comcast just beat FIOS to the finish line here and then dropped the price to an affordable level for everyone.
Nova and Maryland are different states so whatever FIOS and Comcast offer and charge there has no relation to what happens in DC. |

Picture quality of all cable, especially HD channels, is demonstrably inferior to FIOS. Cable doesn't have the bandwidth to feed true HD signals and is forced to compress them.
My friends in the city, were FIOS TV still isn't available, routinely travel to our place to watch the UFC events, Hockey championships, Superbowl etc etc because the picture on the same Panasonic Viera plasmas just plain sucks and they're paying more to boot. It's only a matter of time as ALL of them are already FIOS customers the minute it becomes available.
Comcast is all hype and they lost me as a customer FOREVER. |

Wow, so you cant get FiOS so automatically Cable is better? You really sound biased. Youre trying to get a guy who's had Cable, then switched to FiOS and kept it for 3 straight years, to switch back to Cable? "Comcast won, Fios lost (because you cant get it) LOL. Its FACTUAL that FiOS has faster internet and better TV picture quality. You CANNOT argue it. Just because FiOS has limited availability does not mean its inferior to cable. I have had Comcast and currently have Cox, and they are both horrible. I just ordered FiOS yesterday. |
