| Re: Ten things not to do in New York City/alternatives - a list I don't agree with half that list if you are a tourist.
Sure take the subway, avoid tavern on the green, and the carriage ride in the park may not be the best way to see central park.
But avoid the top of the empire state building? Come on give me a break. Should of said to go later in the day then during peak hours, and the 3D ride is pretty fun.
Macys is also fun to shop at and I have no clue what the writer is talking about. I've been there in crazy days and it wasn't messy, now during the holidays it is but what store isn't during the holidays. -- Email/MSN: Michael at hardwaregeeks.comAIM: MikeR35292

| As for the Tavern on the Green alternative, The River Cafe might offer a nice view, but one of the signature assets of New York is its wide variety of either very New York style restaurants and ethnic choices. Go dine on Vietnamese or Turkish, or go grab a pastrami sandwich at Katz's. The River Cafe offers what every other water-bordering city offers, and you can get it without paying a fortune for a meal.
The writer is a psycho deluxe for speaking bad about the hot dog carts. Even when I hated hot dogs, I would eat dirty water hot dogs. They offer a great bargain when its that magic hour between lunch and dinner, and you need something quick to tide you over while walking, which you do a lot of in New York.
I agree with HG about skipping the Empire State Bldg and Macy's. That's just blasphemy. Lord & Taylor is not nearly as iconic as Macy's is, and icons are a big part of tourism.
The Central Park, Hell's Kitchen, meatpacking district, and Upright Citizen's Brigade points are money. I took my ex to the UCB, and it was a frickin riot. -- You're so vain... I bet you think this post is about you.

| Re: Ten things not to do in New York City/alternatives - a list I agree, the writer is a MORON, most of the stuff on that list is fine, with some exceptions, but to attack ALL hot dog carts!!!
The BEST dogs are Sabrett's from a cart on or AFTER Tuesday, never want to eat them on a Monday, they MAY be left over from FRIDAY!!
We could make a list of thousands of things to do in NYC, that all of us would agree on was worth it, and we could probably do the same on things to avoid.
The thing is, we would all have different lists, with many similarities on them and many differences.
That is the great thing about NYC, EVERYONE can find something they will like to do here, and things they hated doing here. -- RIAA/MPAA... Bite me!!!! In constant search for intelligent life on Earth!

I was in Oklahoma City last year and made it a point to visit the terrorist memorial there. VERY moving. It made me really sad how all the parties involved in the New York site cant get their shit together, but Oklahoma City got this done very quickly.
What I COULD do without at the WTC site is the trinket hawkers. There should be some kind of ordinance that no sales can be transacted within x feet of the site. -- You're so vain... I bet you think this post is about you.

What I COULD do without at the WTC site is the trinket hawkers. There should be some kind of ordinance that no sales can be transacted within x feet of the site. There's nothing there. Its a messy, crowded construction site. I went to see the USS Arizona memorial in Pearl Harbor and found it very touching. I would assume the same with OK City.
The temporary WTC memorial is in Battery Park, also a very touching site. There are also many war memorials there as well as the merchant marine one. All very touching in many different ways.
But the actual WTC site has not tourist value AT ALL. -- Team JON.
