Re: Ten things not to do in New York City/alternatives - a list If I had to choose the ESB over the Top of the Rock, I'd go to the Top of the Rock. Better views (you can see the ESB), shorter lines and I thought it was just a better place to view the city. Many people are allured by the fact that they're going into the ESB, which is fine.
Macy's on Thanksgiving is a mad house.. I highly recommend it to tourists (not for shopping though).
Hot dog from a hot dog cart? I'll watch my tourist friends eat that while I go get a slice of pizza somewhere. 
Eat in Times Square? Not a chance... well, maybe Virgil's because they have good beer.
