| reply to Earth Signal Re: [general] Need video using Wildblue
said by Earth Signal :The short answer is "no," you can't use internet telephony on WB (or the other satellite service, for that matter) due to the delays in the time it takes the signal to travel back and forth. The real reason is the packet shaping employed by Wildblue which includes a DAMA scheduler and their refusal to give priority to VOIP packets. Reports have indicated that VOIP works well with some tolerable delay over Telesat, the Canadian version of Wildblue, who gives priority to VOIP packets. Since Wildblue has decided to prevent VOIP and probably live 2-way video from working, I agree with you Marykayeee: I would cancel Wildblue if I had a non-satellite option for Internet access. In the end their high price for slow speeds and limited usage may cause me to bail out even without a substitute. -- Value Pack, beam 31, Riverside gateway |
