Well there is a few things you must do;
1.) know and understand how magic Jack works. It uses Virtual Drive technology that allows Magic Jack to work and store the contact lists andcall history. To fix this uninstall ROXIO and or NERO burning related softwares. Power2Go is a ROXIO burning software too so remove it completely. restart the PC.
2.) open the Run Box from the start menu or press Windows Key + R, then type regedit.
3.) Press CTRL + F for the find/search feature, then type TigerJet/MagicJack look for one of those two names.
4.) Look to see if the found enteries have been a single Key, or a folder. IF just a single key with other driver reg keys then remove only the TIger Jet/MagicJack enteries. If the found text is in a Folder with the folder name of the listed TigerJet/MagicJack names then delete those. When you are done there are about 15-20 Deleted items.
5.) Shut down the PC. When the PC is turned off insert the Jack into a well powered USB port. For troubleshooting and power issues use one of the back panel Jacks, without the extension USB cord.
6.) Restart with Magic Jack inserted into a USB 2.0 jack. Magic Jack will not work in a 1.x port (Only if Nero and Roxio software have been removed) allow the registration to complete. restart.
7.) reinstall burning software according to teh software specifications, or recovery partition from OEM manufacture such as HP. restart PC and you are set installed and fully functional.
These Software colide because of the abilities to burn from virtual drive directory structure. Other softwares like ISOUltra, which can mount a virtual drive to run ISO files may also need to be removed prior to inserting magic jack.
AFTER YOU HAVE MAGIC JACK INSTALLED YOU WILL NO LONGER HAVE THIS PROBLEM. THERE IS ALSO A UPDATED PATCH FOR IT ON THE MAGICJACK.COM SUPPORT LINKS. BEST GO DOWNLOAD THAT TOO! IF YOU LAUNCH THIS BEFORE INSERTING THE JACK IT WILL ONLY USE THE MOST UPDATED PACK, AND NOT USE THE ONE FLASHED ONTO THE JACK.
Magic Jack Rocks so now you can enjoy it. This is the only real bug and it only effects 1 of my 5 PC's that all use the same software, this bug has to do with the firmware on your CD/DVD ROM!!! It will never be fixed, untill you have a 100% compatable software, which will require yoru burning softwares developer to comply to Magic jack and avoid the similarties to the emulation used in MagickJack. | | speedfrk

| Kudos, Tradgic, you are dead on with this fix! This is NOT a USB issue, per se.
What you state is correct: this is a conflict of the MJ AND (my) Nero Essentials 7.0 VIRTUAL DRIVER programs slugging it out for control of the USB controller. I am mightily impressed you figured this out!
Have WIN XP Pro on 2 PC's with this exact problem and had intermittent problems with the MJ not being recognized. Sometimes it was recognized as a "removable drive", or, occasionally, as "MagicJack" in "My Computer".
On consecutive reboots, the hard drive letters might arbitrarily change, and/or, the icons might occasionally display correctly, but, most times they did not!
But, there was always one constant: the MJ program NEVER ONCE would initialize!
Sometimes the devices would be grayed out, opening "Safely Remove Hardware", in the task bar - sometimes, not.
It was hard to figure out what was happening due to the shifting symptoms.
It did not matter when the MJ was inserted or which USB port it was plugged into - the MJ program NEVER initialized!
It also did not matter what was set in bios, the above scenario remained the same (USB 2.0, legacy USB support, HI-SPEED, OS "plug and pray" were all ENABLED.), .
After your post it made sense that the OS was slowing to a crawl while the 2 virtual driver programs duelled - each peeing in the other's cornflakes.
Eventually, the MJ device MIGHT show up, within 5-10 minutes in device manager since The OS was so extremely slow. Can you spell frustrated???
NEVER ONCE DID THE magicJack PROGRAM INITIALIZE!
I was lucky and had a Compaq laptop from work. I was able to install and verify the MJ worked. In fact, I registered my MJ on it.
Then, I went on to install it on the next 2 PC's... it was going to be a snap... WRONG!
Anyway, I knew beforehand the MJ device was fine. I was able to call out and receive calls on it. But, no amount of troubleshooting got it running on these 2 PC's. I had to turn into a googler...
When I finally found your post, I realized both my newer (ASUS mobo) PC's had Nero Essentials 7.0 loaded on them.
As soon as I de-installed Nero, I searched the registry for "TigerJet/MagicJack", but, found no entries whatsoever. I suppose because the MJ was never seen on the USB.
I immediately rebooted at that point, and, VOILA, you, personally, made me a VERY happy camper!
Not only did the issue go away, I saw TWO "magicJack" icons (E: and F: on my configuration) in "My Computer".
The first time I double-clicked the F: drive icon, the MJ interface displayed and I made my first phone call on one of the two new PC's! I damned near had apoplexy!
I OWE YOU A BEER, (if you'll buy me one, too!). A sincere thanx for your post, dude!!!!
God loves you, and, now, me too!
Now, let's go call some wimen!!!! | | hypersurf1
