Re: SBC DSL Elite Dallas Area

On the phone with them right now - on a line test with at&t shows a throughput of 9.0 kbps....let me repeat KPBS as in less then a 33k dial up MODEM!

They had me do another line test too ... same link I have been using for years to test the line speed ... used the Richardson, TX site.

I got a whopping 33kbps ...

Not surprisingly I got disconnected while waiting on a call back from their Tech Support side. Will give them till the time I get home tomorrow before I use theconsumerist.com and start an email of their board of directors.

I give them until Friday ... otherwise, I go with U-verse ...

AFAIK, U-verse is available for me ....

Well, they left a message indicating that the line had tested fine.

So,

(1) they weren't willing to read or reference the earlier trouble ticket even though I gave it to them on the chat.

(2) I sent the service tech on the chat the response from the customer support tech who told me about the one card replacement in The Colony ... and that if that didn't fix my problem they would have to look at a "second fix" ... which they had already isolated, but wanted to try the TC card replacement first.

(3) they followed the same BS script of "let's just check the lines" ... the earlier trouble ticket and testing found that it wasn't the lines.

and finally,

(4) they can't seem to connect any other trouble tickets to a common problem in The Colony (as indicated by other posts above).

At this point I will be switching to U-verse if this is not resolved by ATT on Friday. I know it means staying with AT&T but it is "the" service from AT&T, uses completely different DSL hardware, and is supported by a separate support group.

Anyway, keep turning in trouble tickets ... maybe someone will be smart enough to "connect the dots" and figure out that they really do have a problem that they need to fix ... rather than pissing off customers.

I just called the 888 customer number to find out about last night's trouble ticket.

I was told that there was an "outage" that has been fixed and is now in a "monitoring" phase ... it would have been nice to have known that last night.

When I asked how long the outage had been in effect, he said the 29th.

I don't know if they mean that I had an "outage" and that they are monitoring it or that there was one in TC that has been fixed.

The support tech could not answer the question or didn't understand what I was asking. Essentially, was it just my DSL line or a number of people in TC?

I can't check it until I get home tonight, but I don't have high hopes.

oh well ... U-verse is starting to look a lot better ...

I just found out that they replaced the same card in The Colony CO on Monday night (after midnight) ... they also replaced a second card last night after midnight (i.e., this morning).

They're hoping that those two fixes will have the problems resolved today ... I won't be able to test mine until tonight.

I'm getting 4.88mbps right now, but then I was getting the same early yesterday too. We shall see.

Guess I got excited too soon. It's dropped to around 735kbs. I expect it to continue dropping... *sigh*

Same thing happening for me in Irving. I haven't done speed tests, but I get really long lag spikes almost always followed by disconnects from every application connected to the Internet. I've had this happen once in a while over the years but it never lasts more than a few days. This has been going for about 2 weeks now however.

Well, my connection seems to be reasonably stable today. Lowest I have seen is 3.8Mbps and I did not shutdown everything using my connection to run the test. Seems to have been fixed sometime yesterday afternoon. When I got home a 7PM, it was fine and has stayed in the 3.8-5Mbps range since.

Just spoke with the support folks and my ticket had been flagged as an "area wide outage". Of course they didn't call to tell me that would have canceled my tech visit. Apparently "a card was replaced" yesterday. The guy I spoke to didn't seem to know where other than it would have been at the "remote terminal" as he put it, so I assume that would be The Colony CO. Hopefully they got it fixed this time. Suppose I will just have to wait and see.
