| Kudos, Tradgic, you are dead on with this fix! This is NOT a USB issue, per se.
What you state is correct: this is a conflict of the MJ AND (my) Nero Essentials 7.0 VIRTUAL DRIVER programs slugging it out for control of the USB controller. I am mightily impressed you figured this out!
Have WIN XP Pro on 2 PC's with this exact problem and had intermittent problems with the MJ not being recognized. Sometimes it was recognized as a "removable drive", or, occasionally, as "MagicJack" in "My Computer".
On consecutive reboots, the hard drive letters might arbitrarily change, and/or, the icons might occasionally display correctly, but, most times they did not!
But, there was always one constant: the MJ program NEVER ONCE would initialize!
Sometimes the devices would be grayed out, opening "Safely Remove Hardware", in the task bar - sometimes, not.
It was hard to figure out what was happening due to the shifting symptoms.
It did not matter when the MJ was inserted or which USB port it was plugged into - the MJ program NEVER initialized!
It also did not matter what was set in bios, the above scenario remained the same (USB 2.0, legacy USB support, HI-SPEED, OS "plug and pray" were all ENABLED.), .
After your post it made sense that the OS was slowing to a crawl while the 2 virtual driver programs duelled - each peeing in the other's cornflakes.
Eventually, the MJ device MIGHT show up, within 5-10 minutes in device manager since The OS was so extremely slow. Can you spell frustrated???
NEVER ONCE DID THE magicJack PROGRAM INITIALIZE!
I was lucky and had a Compaq laptop from work. I was able to install and verify the MJ worked. In fact, I registered my MJ on it.
Then, I went on to install it on the next 2 PC's... it was going to be a snap... WRONG!
Anyway, I knew beforehand the MJ device was fine. I was able to call out and receive calls on it. But, no amount of troubleshooting got it running on these 2 PC's. I had to turn into a googler...
When I finally found your post, I realized both my newer (ASUS mobo) PC's had Nero Essentials 7.0 loaded on them.
As soon as I de-installed Nero, I searched the registry for "TigerJet/MagicJack", but, found no entries whatsoever. I suppose because the MJ was never seen on the USB.
I immediately rebooted at that point, and, VOILA, you, personally, made me a VERY happy camper!
Not only did the issue go away, I saw TWO "magicJack" icons (E: and F: on my configuration) in "My Computer".
The first time I double-clicked the F: drive icon, the MJ interface displayed and I made my first phone call on one of the two new PC's! I damned near had apoplexy!
I OWE YOU A BEER, (if you'll buy me one, too!). A sincere thanx for your post, dude!!!!
God loves you, and, now, me too!
Now, let's go call some wimen!!!! |
