On top of that, for those that understand how law enforcement works in Canada, in order to tap private communications like that you need a thing called a "privacy act warrant" which is nearly impossible to get, because the police have to be able to prove that all accessible avenues of information gathering have already been expended.

Besides, you should be more worried that the companies themselves will abuse it.
