Re: [Info] Microsoft Security Essentials BETA Released fwiw; noticed my vista taskmanger after boot was normally about 35% phy mem usage ,, dropped to 30% as compaired to Avast & boots slighly faster and the start up process's settles down the hdd light blinking considerably faster.
Seems ok.. was a 2hr full scan on my lightly loaded dual core laptop.
PCAdviser uk website says only available to first 75,000 users .. haven't seen that mentioned anywhere else. |

 | reply to Gone Fishing I find this *irresistible*... The beta for MS Anti-Spyware found two "infections" on my clean computer -- both on Genuine Microsoft Windows" CD's....
Anyone for a "false positives" pool?
I have 1.5 TB of files I'll let it scan...

I'll start the contest off, and say 3.

 | I've scanned three Vista machines, no infections found. |

You should at least disable your primary as a resident. Keep us posted. |

HikerZeusPremium join:2002-10-27 Lebanon, NJ kudos:1 | reply to Gone Fishing I'm still running Windows Live OneCare on 3 machines. I'm paid till November. Would it make sense to dump that and go with this Beta software?
Also, does this new software allow you to network printers on-the-fly like Win Live OneCare?
Thanks... I'll keep reading up on this new software too... -- "The braggart's pompous tongue Is hated most by Zeus And seeing them advance superb In clank of gold, he struck their first Man down with fire before he yelled Triumph from the walls" - Antigone. |

Re: [Info] Microsoft Security Essentials BETA Released What a POS! That "thing" gave me a dozen blue screens and I got to a point that my box had about three minutes of life until it died.
System restore helped some, but I have been "rebuilding" it for about four hours.

Re: [Info] Microsoft Security Essentials BETA Released I have a few months left on my KIS sub so I'll wait and install this after it expires... I grabbed all the available versions being offered today and archived them so it should be good to go when I need it..
Seen some wildly varying responses here and on the net to be sure from ppl already using it... seems like this shaping up to be one of those 'love it' or 'hate it' products w/ very little middle ground in between.
Thanks for the post or else I'd have forgotten about this |

 | reply to Gone Fishing Interestingly enough it did turn Windows Defender off on my Vista x64 machine. Don't know why it didn't turn it off on the 32 bit one. -- "Don't steal. The government hates competition." Beyond AM. Beyond FM. XM |
