| Port Forwarding Issues
I am having issues trying to get the port forwarding working on my ATT DSL. I don't know if I have a setup issue or what but I was hoping someone here will know the problem. I have a Westell modem, the model number is F90-610025-06 and I have that connected to my router which is a Linksys WRT54G. I have went into my router configuration to enable the port forwarding but even when I do that it says the port is still closed. I restarted the router a couple times but to no avail.
So I am wondering if it is the modem that is blocking the ports. I do not know if that is possible but hopefully someone can tell me. From my understanding the PPP is on the modem. The router is set to 192.168.2.1 and the modem 192.168.1.254. I hope the solution is something really simple or if the problem is on ATT's end. |

| That Westell is a pretty new product, and I have no experience with it. Assuming it is the one with the standard SpeedStream menus (as available in the SpeedStream 5100b, 4100, 4100b, and Motorola 2210 ;SBC version), I'd start by using the techniques outlined for those modems.

If that doesn't work, I am at a loss.
For my SS4100, I am set up to run PPPoE on the modem, and issue a private IP address (192.168.1.64) to the router. The router is configured to use a LAN subnet outside of the modem IP address (192.168.0.1) and modem DHCP IP address (192.168.1.64) range. Any LAN IP address using 192.168.x.1/255.255.255.0 (where "x" is 2, or greater) should work on the router. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |

| reply to blubomber Westell has no info on that modem and says to contact AT&T for help on it.
Is 192.168.2.1 the WAN IP or LAN IP of the Linksys?
If your Linksys WAN is getting a 192.168.x.x IP from the Westell it sounds like the Westell is a modem/router and you would also need to forward the port(s) on the Westell to the Linksys WAN IP. |

The long and short of it is, this is a relatively new modem with proprietary firmware for AT&T users. We don't know much about it as yet (but you could help fix that). The chances are that it is a crippled router, designed to have only a single client computer, and that single computer is effectively on the DMZ (all ports forwarded to it).
If you can configure the modem to "assign the public IP to the computer", and if your linksys is configured to use DHCP to get its WAN ip, then it will probably work. If you cannot get that working, you could switch the modem to "do PPPoE on the computer" mode, and configure the PPPoE parameters on your linksys. -- AT&T dsl; Speedstream 5100b modem; openSuSE 11.0; firefox 3.0.11 |

| reply to efflandt Sorry for not being clear, the modem assigns the router an IP of 192.168.1.64 and I have the routers local IP as 192.168.2.1. Since you guys don't know much of the modem I will take some screenshots of the interface and upload them, hopefully you guys will get a better idea. |

When you check to see if the port is open or closed, if you don't have a application listening and answering on the port(s) they will show closed |

| reply to blubomber It sounds like the modem is a variant on the westell 6100 series, which is a router/modem. It is specially configured for att and so may be a bit different. If you have accessed the modem configuration page you should be able to put the modem into bridged mode.
If you are confused about this then people here will probably walk you through it. |

| Okay, like what most of you suggested putting the modem on "bridged mode" solved my problem. The interface of this modem is very similar to the links you guys have provided. Sorry to bother everyone with this, I had Comcast internet before I switched to ATT and the setup is a bit different. Everyone thank you for your time. |
