The problem is you have to bring:
The MJ Dongle
An Old Landline Telephone
An Extension Cord
A Silver Satin Phone Cord
And if needed, a place to plug in your phone to an electrical outlet.
I was one of the people who got suckered into the 5 year plan.
I am now looking into other alternatives. I hope the MagicJack company ends up Bankrupt due to all the negative publicity.
My issue is not really with the hacking of the product but the morons that work for the company.
I have had more downtime on my MACBOOK and it ended up costing me money.
I was in London and when the upgrade happened a few weeks ago They could not get my service back up and running for 4 days. I lost a $12,000.00 commission. Right now my legal team is looking into the possibility of a lawsuit.
After I got back to the states I was able to get the service back on but not because tech support was able to do it.
I figured it out myself and I had to use a PC to do it.
I have since forwarded my number to a SKYPE number and am sure I will never do business with MagicJack again.
I have already started notifying customers of the new number.

I just use a headset. No dongle. No handset. No drama.
You're right that MJ isn't reliable enough for important uses like business calls, or on a resumè. They don't market it that way. But, $1.60 a month?

Did you not know/consider this before purchasing? "MJ sucks" because of your misunderstanding/wanting to hack it/whatever...?
Other than the occasional glitch, MJ works pretty much like they said it would. All for $20 year. No one forced you to buy the 5 year package either.

2. The poster in this thread crying about losing business/commissions is either a fool or is BS'ing us. Why would ANYONE rely on MJ or any travel VoIP for business-essential purposes? And if it failed, what's wrong with the hotel/phone booth? | |

Seems to work OK for me, but then I don't do most of my business from Starbucks and am quite happy using a regular phone in a hotel. | |

I can really sympathize with this problem, because I had a similar one. I was in the middle of overthrowing a small country when my Magic Jack crapped out. It was very frustrating - I really needed to call in my backup mercenaries because we were getting our butts kicked. Thank goodness I found my son's Radio Shack walkie talkie in my briefcase, so I was at least able to call my plane crew and tell them to get ready for takeoff. I jumped on my Vespa and got to the airport just in time to escape with my life.
I lost millions on this operation, and billions I would have made exploiting that country's mineral wealth.
I now have a team of mercenaries and attorneys looking into how we can best recover damages from MJ. | |
