Re: Gigaset US Update

I have been using Gigaset S685IP for some time now and it is the best VoIP device I have ever used.

The sound quality is really good, almost as good as Linksys SPA962.

It is also very easy to configure with a lot of useful features.

I recommend Gigaset S685IP, you get a lot of value for your money.

What? Is all your calling via the PSTN, that is dialing by phone number? Do you even call by pure IP means? Like the Gigaset.Net account? If you did your S685IP would use G.722 and blow away the SPA-962.

I just had a call from Tony at Gigaset via SIPGate. We worked out the correct settings to pass wideband calls between SIPGate accounts. This is especially useful for Gigaset phones since they don't presently have any way of dialing by SIP URI.

SIPGate accounts are all referenced by a traditional phone number, so easily dialing on a normal phone. Yet when the calls stays in-net it's pure IP, so wideband is possible.

To do this you go into your SIPGate account and make two changes:

1. In the advanced settings for the phone enable "compatibility mode"

2. Their routing defaults to ringing multiple phone at once, whihc keeps their proxy server in the media path. You can allow direct comms between the phones by going into the routing settings and directing calls to a specific number to go right to the phone, not a group.

Almost all my calling is to/from PSTN, only a few calls are made via Gigaset.net.

Linksys SPA962 has a slighty better sound quality but the Gigaset is a lot more convenient to use.

Gigaset S685IP has more nice features than SPA962. The Dialling Plans feature is one of the real good features in S685IP.
