The Kroger nearest me only uses one wheel lock. I'm thinking the only thing stopping the wheel locks from being installed on all four wheels would be cost.
Yup. since they're like $300 each.
you can defeat it by tipping the cart to one side and roll on two wheels.

Fair enough, but you're still an asshole if you block a parking spot with it.

Well I guess I am just a fucking lazy no good son of bitch. I never take a cart back to the cart corral as I don't fucking work for the store and am not drawing a pay check to do so and I just put food in the mouth for every sorry SOB that works there by spending my money at that store. Just like the self check outs. Not fucking going to happen unless the store wants to give me a 15 or 20% discount.

No bad thing (provided you have a push bar installed, of course!).

Wall-shit has already beat you to it as the fucking cheap bastards will not pay or hire any one to collect the carts as they want the customers to pick them up for them. Looks as if a lot of stores are flowing suite with the wheel locks and the money slots for the carts. Same as the self check-outs they don't want to hire cashiers as they are training the customers to do that for them. In fact I have yet to see any kind of contract when using the carts that says I have to do any thing. The stores have program people to do a lot of things that save them money and I said save them cause they damn sure not saving the customers money. So every one can just keep being their little robots. So who is the smart ones the stores or the customers? You and every other customer have just lost. LMAOROTF!

Edit:
Next they will get the customer to unload the trucks and stock the shelves and clean the bathrooms.

I am not the kind of person that thinks I have to park up front cause I can't walk. I let all the lazy assholes have that cluster fuck parking up front. Thank you I like to walk.

????? Both WalMarts here have people on lot detail that return the carts on about an hourly basis depending on store traffic.

Then you get to stand in the long line in the single regular register that's open. You lose either way as now you lost an extra 15-20 minutes.

Hmmm....Opera 10 won't do auto quote here...

Where I live Wal-Mart collects the wagons about once an hour from the park zones around the lot.

Wal-Mart tried self check lanes here a couple of years ago. They went over like a lead balloon so Wal-Mart quietly removed them. We generally have plenty of lanes open and there is little wait time. (Plus, Walmart just totally redid the store outside and inside and it looks soooo NICE now! I think they thought Target was coming sooner than it is (summer 2011).

Wal-Mart has actually bothered to notice, and act on, the fact that the average height of both men and women in Hawaii is 5'3" and the new store look features much lower shelves that we can reach now. CVC bought Longs Drug chain and immediately sent a Mainland team here to put in very high shelves. The local Long's managers warned them and they paid no attention. Well, they too have recently redone the stores and put back the lower shelves that Longs had. Sometimes companies do listen but not soon enough to keep from putting their foot in it and then having to messily extract it and backtrack later.

I don't think the stores will try the quarter thing here, but then I didn't think Safeway would start using wheel locks. I think the wheel locks will be accepted easily because they don't effect most folks but having to deposit money to get a wagon that would be extremely irritating and effects everyone wanting a wagon.

You've just convinced me: Hawaii is definitely on another planet. Either that or Walmarts there are run by an entirely different company.

I think it is more that the County forced Wal-Mart to be a better citizen than they wanted to be. Wal-Mart almost didn't get to come here. The land that Wal-Mart is located on is Department of Hawaiian Homesteads Land. When DHHL decided about 10 or so years ago to put out for bids for a long term (56 years) lease KMart bid and was accepted but at the very last minute Wal-Mart learned the bid that KMart put up and, of course, undercut them. There was not enough proof that Wal-Mart paid off someone to learn KMart's bid price so DHHL and the County (we don't have city governments but County ones) had to let Wal-Mart have the bid. A lot of local folks especially those of Hawaiian ancestory were bitterly against Wal-Mart (even KMart but especially Wal-Mart) coming here and they managed to delay construction for a long while. Wal-Mart was told they could not build one of the yucky looking stores like they built in my home town which is in Arkansas. Plus, the developer of the shopping center where Wal-Mart was building also told them they had to build a store that on the outside had to look nice and fit with the rest of the shopping center.

So, from the beginning we have had a nice looking outside for Wal-Mart and even nicer now. Inside was typical Wal-Mart until now and I am impressed as the wide aisles and lower shelfs are great. The pharmacy area has been redone and is all open now. Again very nice looking and inviting and the employees love it. Apparently something has happened with the grocery area too as Wal-Mart was denied the right to build a Super Store recently which meant no grocery except the few aisles they already had. They have a lot more aisles now and all new coolers and lots of them...no produce/fresh meat so maybe that is how they can say it is not a grocery store.

DHHL recently put out one of their rare calls for bids for lease on another piece of vacant DHHL property directly behind Wal-Mart where Wal-Mart had thought of expanding to a super store but the County put limits on the size of big box stores so they couldn't then that got rescinded but Wal-Mart had changed its mind by then. That 56 year lease went to Safeway (which is currently in our shopping Plaza) and Target together so that is going to be real competition for Wal-Mart and ironically right behind them where they have been storing containers for years and they have no place now to put those containers except in the parking lot which isn't allowed plus would cut down on the number of stalls.

What I hate is how the wheels are always screwed up. I stock for Target and we have to put the boxes from the truck in them because we can't have pallets out (Guests sue if they trip on them) when you have to push 10-12 alone and half of the carts pull to the right it pisses you off. Only thing that bugs me about carts.

Thats what happens when they're pushed in long trains and all the stores cart guys do that.
the thumping wheel issue is caused by turning long trains of carts.
