I wonder if the hassle of having to produce a quarter before you get to use a cart drives away business? Yeah, plugging the end of the cable from the cart in front of you into your cart releases the quarter. I really hate these carts. They have them at most pathmark's in the Bronx. All it does is attract the local bums who wait for you to unload your items and then take the cart so they can get the quarter. They always get pissed when I bring my own cart back and get my quarter. I've stopped shopping at any store that uses this ridiculous system. -- University of Southern California - Class of 2010. Hope that you are not flying back my way next time I am on vacation in Florida. I will more than gladly let my kids kick the back of your seat for 3 hrs! |

The Walmart near me has that system. That yellow line looks like the above pic by the end of the day because of dead shopping carts. Fun game for the kids, take a working shopping cart, run as fast as you can with it, let it go right before the yellow line, cart will go over line, then somersault once or a couple times. if some one ever gets the nerv to do this, im sure those of us on the internets would very much apreciate a youtube of it just sayin. | reply to Sweet Witch I've used those in England. I actually kinda like them. They're more maneuverable. I think it just takes a little practice to "drive" them properly.
It would make moving a cart sideways out of the aisle a lot easier for passing shoppers if we had them here.
Plus they're a lot more fun if you've been out at the pubs on a saturday night and you want to go for a spin in a shopping cart (literally). -- Tradition: Just because you've always done it that way doesn't mean it's not incredibly stupid. --despair.com |

| reply to Steve I do that too, but I do it with a bit of aggravation toward the lazy pricks who don't think it's their job to put things back where they belong. It's actually gotten BETTER where I live because so many people were complaining about it and the people who didn't put them back were being villified.
Years ago, some a-hole left a cart in a lot (instead of getting off their lazy ass and rolling it to a cart corral) and the wind blew it into my car leaving a nice dent.
Sometimes as I walk back to my car in a lot and see someone do that, I'm inclined to grab the cart and roll it right behind their vehicle so they hit it as they back out. I've never done it, but I've been tempted. -- Tradition: Just because you've always done it that way doesn't mean it's not incredibly stupid. --despair.com |

| reply to lew_b If I had to put a quarter in a cart for the privilege of shopping at a certain store, I would go elsewhere.

| reply to Mr Neutron said by Mr Neutron :said by lew_b :A local law forces stores to put a device on the cart that chains the cart to the one in front of it. When you say "local," is this a town/city thing? Honestly, I'm having a hard time understanding what all the fuss is about. Most of the stores I go to have the carts that stop at the yellow line. Provided the carts never leave the lot, is it really so hard to deal with them in parking lot? | reply to Mr Neutron said by Mr Neutron :Apparently, there are people selling "shopping cart tokens" that allow you to get the use of such shopping carts, but without having to use actual money to do so.
