Although it's a bit more than you want to spend, I'd highly recommend the Hauppauge HD-PVR. It's the only (affordable) device of it's kind that allows you to capture HD as well as any other programming from your Cable or Satellite HD STB. I've had mine about a week now and I'm totally happy with it. It uses a H.264 AVCHD video encoder and can record 720p or 1080i HD programming at up to 13.5 mbps. You can record to M2TS, TS or MP4 files. It connects to your STB using component (YPbPr) cables. In addition, there are no DRM worries...

I did start a thread here about a video recorded over S-Video not being able to be played due to copyright restrictions but I think that was just some weird fluke as S-Video is analog as well and shouldn't be flagged as restricted content. |
