Please read: Let's all be nice, OK?

Recently, there have been several posts made by people with what some perceive as dubious claims. Those claims are then refuted, argued, and otherwise gone on about, all of which is off topic. This is a technical forum (with some latitude) and should focus on problems and solutions, technologies, etc. rather than believing someone did "x" to their car or if it's possible.

Starting immediately, questioning the validity of a poster's claims will not be tolerated. If you don't believe someone, move on and do not reply in the thread. It really is that easy. If you think we're being trolled, that's fine, but don't announce it to the world. Quietly find another thread and do not feed the troll. If you do post, don't be surprised if your post disappears.

If you have a legitimate answer to the question, by all means please post it. Obviously out and out fabrications such as "my Maserati does 185 in 1st gear" can be refuted, or at least ask for a little proof. But let the more general claims go.

This forum, as a whole, has a pretty good BS meter. If something is odd, ignore it. If everyone does, it goes away naturally. Going on and on about whether the question is legitimate only prolongs the life of a thread that probably doesn't deserve it, and ... it's off topic! Put simply, if the problem has a real solution, answer it to the best of your ability. If not, next thread, please.

And if you feel something posted is really bad, inaccurate, or illegal, hey mod it instead of replying in the thread. The mods might not get to it instantly, but it will be seen before anything else. Hey mods is still the best way of getting something some attention.

And as always, discussions of illegal activities or overtly dangerous activities do not belong in this technical forum.

Let's all be nice, OK?

Are you referring to a post in which the OP's problem is perceived as dubious?

Or, are you (also) referring to replies to a legitimate question that are of dubious correctness?

In a word, yes.

No. Incorrect answers should always be refuted with facts.

Thanks for asking. I wasn't entirely clear.

So this means that my on topic posts will still be deleted due to the fact that I actually have worked on cars for a living and don't just spew hyperbole from 1954 ?

Don't answer that....past experience has spoken volumes....my on topic posts will still be deleted.

Thank god we still have threads of 20 pages about tire pressures and wiper blades.

It's the way you come across. You post like someone who needs a poke between the eyes.

Nope. Moderators don't remove those. They never have, since it's against the rules. Mods only remove the belligerent, obnoxious, self-aggrandizing posts full of ego and put downs for others. Flames and trolls are also included in the removal pile.

Aww shucks. If you know the answer, why bother posting? Do you always talk to yourself?

By the way, If posts are filled with a bunch of anger, condescension, and insults, along with a superior attitude, flames or trolls, they'll be removed regardless of content. Once in a while they get edited, you know on a first or second offense. But eventually you see a pattern and it's not worth separating the signal from the noise. That's when they get removed without comment (from the mods -- unfortunately some users cannot refrain from complaint in public arenas even though that's against the rules).

On my planet, where everyone tries to play nice, we have a thing called "choice" and we can choose to not read a thread. We can choose to ignore the ignoramuses. We can leave well enough alone. We avoid waking the sleeping giant. We can play nice.

See how your post above is still there? See how the other posts you've made that lacked all those bad things mentioned above have been left alone? They're called rules. You are not exempt. We've gone over this before. Play by them and all is good. Otherwise, the DEL button gets used.

Now play nice.
