| Charter Servicability Area - need advice please So I just purchased a home in the 64701 area code (Harrisonville MO) and went to get service installed.
Despite talking with 4 different reps and being told I was in the Charter service area during my contract negotiations (I will not even go into how that effected my purchasing decision) I come to find out when I actually went to order the service that I am actually out of the service area by a mere 2000 feet (yes less than 1/2 of one mile).
The next step is to talk to the "servicability department" and fill out a form to see what can be done and being told that there may be a charge involved (unknown at this point).
There is a new subdivision being built not far from me so I think Charter would be interested in tapping the area. Regardless, I wanted to see if anyone has had a similar experience, what costs might be involved, what I can possibly do or what the outcome was.
I am not opposed to paying some money to get a 20mbps pipe to my house!
Luckily Embarq does service the area, but the best service they can provide is 5mbps/768 which is less than 1/3 of what I am used to.
I play Warcraft, X360, etc and usually have at least 3 or 4 computers running online (other family members and such) so I think I need a really fat pipe >

kudos:2 | Many people have been in identical situations. Unfortunately the only folks who are going to be able to give you reliable information are the folks at the local office, once they complete the servicability request they should let you know what can be done and any costs you might be responsible for if you decide to proceed.

Good luck I doubt they will connect you...not cost effective even if its a new subdivision going in near you....it will be a long while... |
