AMAZING GAME!

It was a miracle of miracles for the USA to make it to the semi final. I have been giddy all week. Go USA!

I could not believe it. When I first managed to sneak a peak at the score during the first half I had to check two other sites to verify I was not seeing things. I still am having trouble accepting the final score.

These last two games the US has not looked like the same team that we have all grown to know and love. They have looked a whole heck of a lot better.

And thanks for the infor about ESPN2 replaying it. I will have to be sure to see this one for myself.

I think i have watched most of the matches, and the USA have surprised me greatly, and no-one expected them to beat he European champions (Spain), who havent lost for nearly three years, with the joint longest unbeaten run in history.

They kept there shape really well, dident defend to deep, were quick on the break, overall there looking like a half decent team, and i`m looking forward to the final, which i suspect will be with Brazil, good luck with that one ...

Half decent team that is ranked #14?

Re: [Soccer] confederations cup (spoiler)

New rankings come out July 1st. Two teams are within striking distance if we get the kind of point bump that we had last time (although they had similar.)

Yep and what a match that was. Fairly even and that was a surprize. RSA has a good team.

Exactly. This span between cups has been great for soccer with the olympics and these tournaments...

The competition is between the winners of there respective Fifa championships, so in effect the winners could call themselves World champions.

Personally i think its been a great competition .

And btw they dont have OT on Soccer ...

Having been born and bred in South London and a season ticket holder in the shed at the Bridge for several years I dont have an issue with the term Football.

Actually,

The term "soccer" is invented by the British not Americans or North Americans.

quote:
The British invented Football in 1863, full name Association football, the term football is the formal name while soccer is its nickname that was created by the English inorder to distinguish it from rugby football. Soccer became a shortened reference to the word assocation football. Therefore, Football's nickname soccer is often used to refer to football in countries where another form of football exist...

I don't mind the noise of the vuvuzelas, but can't stand the bands and drummers that come to many England matches.

Haha, nice one. What I find more annoying than the noise of the vuvuzelas is the noise of British media complaining about vuvuzelas.

They were as annoying as thundersticks at NBA games. I'd much rather hear the cheers and songs.

Considering they were on their way home 10 days ago, the US played pretty well, just Brazil was too strong in the 2nd half...
