It is unlimited nationwide roaming on cricket for $45 and $50 plans and $5 extra a month for other plans.

Also they say you can use any CDMA phone for a price of $40.

and bad phones.
Bad phones?? My Nokia 6265i does everything but give me a Lewinsky!

I had been a (real AT&T) AT&T Wireless customer, and, after we were "borged" into Cingular, they informed us that they were shutting down the TDMA network that had provided the best service of all carriers serving my area, and marketed new phones (and CONTRACTS) at us. After seeing how poor the service was around here on Cingular's towers around here, I decided to shop around before I was forced to make a switch.

With no one I knew having a favorable opinion of their service with Verizon, T-Mobile, and a few others, and no one yet I knew on Metro PCS, I signed up "just for a month", as their coverage maps for around here (Sonoma County, CA), looked fairly good. With a "cheap" Nokia 2125, it was less than $100 out the door.

I was pleasantly surprised to find out that areas "planned for future expansion" on their current coverage map, already were "on", and, I didn't need to care about "burning" minutes, while I did!

I later bought my 6265i, and sold the 2125 on Craigslist for "basically what I paid for it".

I do travel out of their area (to Nevada) occasionally, where I'm roaming on Verizon's network there. At $0.35/minute, I find I usually ring up a whopping $4 or $5 in airtime each trip. Quadruple that, and go every month, and it's still cheaper than with any other carrier.

AND HEY: Back on the topic of phones -- You can take in any phone that supports "800/1900 MHz CDMA plus AMPS band" in to a Metro PCS agent, and have it activated on their network,

Cricket's coverage isn't that great either, but for the price, its a good deal for those that don't travel outside the metros that are covered.

If you're in an area where they utilize AWS spectrum (such as here in Las Vegas for example), then this is not true. It's their phones or nada.

can you fully validate this?

isnt metro areas the real areas people want? Not to mention people dont really travel to need the national coverage, so that local coverage is a-ok. if i have an account here in Tampa, I can use my phone in Atlanta or even Nashville. What do you consider bad phones? I can flash my Alltel phone to MetroPCS. I can buy a brand new Blackberry at MetroPCS.

Don't hate on Metro. They ARE ruffling some feathers. when the love affair ends (or if) and i dont have my free cellphone, i will be going to MetroPCS. Half the numbers in my phonebook are metropcs numbers, most of them subscribers since they came to Tampa. With no problems. Just gotta make sure they pay that bill!
