Re: MLPPP & Dynamic IP said by iamdrumming:I originally posted this in the Teksavvy Direct forum, but they didn't know the answer, so I'm posting here I don't know much about this MLPPP stuff. I have never used it. However I have a few questions. 1. If I sign up, can I use MLPPP to download stuff, while my dad is upstairs surfing the web? He is a senior and will never use MLPPP. All he does is surf the web, and checks email. Since you'd do MLPPP on your router, all computers would be using MLPPP indirectly.
2. I have a D-Link 704UP router. Can I use the same router I have now, but just change my login names? Is it as easy as just changing the login info/realm? Also, if someone else has a D-Link 704UP, your thoughts would be appreciated as well. No, that router doesn't run Tomato/MLPPP. |

1 edit | Thanks for the reply,
I was originally under the impression that all what needed to be done is that I contact Teksavvy that I want MLPPP. Then my log-in info gets changed from the @teksavvy.com realm that it's currently logged now on the D-Link 704UP to the new @wiredhighspeed.com realm. I guess it's not the case. Oh well. |

| Back when i was using my st516 as a router, i could also establish a 2nd pppoe connection from any PC, and use the windows MLPPP checkbox to use MLPPP on just that machine.
Sometimes i did it just because the 516 wasn't the greatest router and if i wanted to host games i needed the direct pppoe connection to bypass the 516.
I dunno if your router will let you do that - and if it does, you're technically taking up 2 IP's, which is frowned upon.
But in my experience, it's really much easier and works better if you just get a Tomato compatible router and do MLPPP that way. |

1 edit | Isn't running 2 computers off a router just to surf the web technically taking 2 IP's anyways? I'm sure there are people on here who are running 3-4 (or more) PC's off one router. I know of course my dad's PC upstairs has a different IP than the one I'm on now.
I would never "screw" the system. With the WRT54GL, is it possible to use it strictly as a wired router, and disable the wireless aspect of it? I would never need the wireless side. That's if there is no other way to just change the log-in info on my D-Link, then I would have to look at getting a WRT54GL, or put up with the throttling. I don't do much downloading as it is. |

one 69.xxx.xxx.xxx connected to multiple 192.168.1.xxx computers You can just disable wireless, as simple as that... |
