Might be moving back to CA...

The house I'm renting out in Colorado, the owners decided to sell it, so they shortened my lease to the end of July.

I got approved and secured a new rental house on Monday at lunch. Went in, gave them $1145 deposit and went back to work.

At 3pm on Monday I got laid off.

I called the rental company and told them I might need out of the lease due to the loss of a job, and they got back to me today. I will get my deposit back, and they couldn't rent to me anyway unless I can show I have gotten a new job.

So now I'm in limbo land. Gotta move out of my current place and have nothing to move to - unless I can find a month-to-month 2 bedroom place for me and my daughter until I get a new job...

With all my family out in CA, it might be better for me to just move back and stay with one of them until I get a new job...

I've got my 12 year old to think about too. She lives with me full time and I don't think a hotel room is gonna fly...lol

A friend offered me his spare room for her and the basement for me on a temporary basis...that might be an option...but my newborn son is in CA with his mom (our divorce was finalized yesterday)...so it almost makes more sense for me to just come back now...

If you move back, we'll stop giving you grief for posting here.

We'll find another reason for giving it to you, just not for that.

Egads man! Sorry to hear that tale of woe.

You are aware the unemployment rate in California is 11.6% and rising Right?

Whereas the Colorado rate is 7.4% (Utah is 5.2%).

Good thing it's summer and your 12-year old is out of school. BUT... don't you want to keep her in the school there?

Perhaps its better to borrow a few bucks from family, find a Month-to-Month that won't confirm employment and simply get another job there. The odds are overwhelmingly in your favor if you stay.

Dude that sucks!

If it were me I'd try my best to find something out there. This state is going into the crapper faster then a drunk with the Hershey squirts!

Hope it all works out. Say hi to the kiddo for me and if you guys do move back here be sure to swing by our way and she can go horse back riding.

yeah one of my main reasons for staying out here when Lauren bailed was due to the state of the economy and the fact I should fare better out here...but the jobs that are here - lots of them require secret clearance...or java...neither of which I have.

Daphne is actually on a road trip out to california right now with my parents - they came up for a visit last week and left on Sunday...Daph is on her "month with mom" right now so it's kinda good this happened now rather than later....except for the fact I'm out here all alone and having to pack and move the entire 6 bedroom house by myself...lolol

if my friend out here was serious I think I'll take him up on that offer. He lives in school district 20 which is what daphne was in already...so she might change schools but will stay in the best district out here. Registration starts on July 1 so I have to decide what I'm gonna do pretty quickly...

Yeah I'd see if he was serious.

Might not be a bad idea to pick up a java book or two at the local book store if you can.

Actually, if I did take the guy up on his offer, I'd still have issues with Daphne's school once I did get back on my feet - I'd be locked into that area unless I wanted to move her in the middle of a school year... And I don't think the guy wants me in his house for a whole year...lol

One option is to just have her stay with her mom for this year so I can get situated and then have her come back...or not if she doesn't want to...

Yeah it can be hard moving in the middle of a school year.

I know you'll get it all worked out.

I'm actually in Colorado Springs. Right now I'm in the outskirts (1 mile south of Monument), and wanted to move closer to town. I'd prefer North East Co Springs, or South West Co Springs. The middle is no good, too far east (Ellicot) is no good, too far South is no good (Fountain).

I've got over 20 years of various skills in I.T. Mostly Microsoft development (VB/ASP/C/C#/.NET/SQL Server)

...um, is it really that difficult to get a DoD secret clearance?

The way I understand it, a "secret" clearance is little more than a credit check and a call to the local police?

It's a bit more then that:

And he can't get one himself, must be obtained through an employer.

That's good to know!

Sorry to potentially get your hopes up, but my friends and family are in Denver proper, Littleton and Aurora. I know that one of them was looking for a rent/share, but that looks to be far from where you want to be.

You may want to check north a bit to see if your services are wanted up there - you never know if Stapleton or one of the airport support companies wants an MS developer. I'd also check out Boulder (though you'll be competing with college kids there), and especially Golden (not because it's a tech haven, but because it's a nice place to live).

i'd say a lot more. they called my parents, talked to neighbors, and interviewed my college professors. and i'm not from Iran.

Yeah I spent about 7 years in Aurora back in the 70's..which is one of the main reasons I wanted to move back to Colorado...

It held so many good memories for me growing up...

But at this time I couldn't see myself raising my daughter anywhere close to where I spent those years...heck she's better off being with her mom in North Hollywood...

I've been seriously contemplating talking to her mom about spending the next year in LA while I get re-established...

I'm sorry to hear about that. I agree with the others about staying over there. There is nothing over here except for maybe being bitten in the ass in taxes, an inept legislature, and Stupid for a governor.
