That depends what you expect out of it. A lot of people don't realize that Arma is a Simulation, not a shooter, and is accordingly complex so you need to get over the learning curve. 1 edit | Re: ARMA2 2 Days! Initial impressions?
Beautiful, big and as expected, complicated. The graphics are well done with soft lenses (maybe a little too much) lush landscapes and much better looking models that its predecessors. Interesting low light effects (grainy) and well done nightvision.
Voice acting varies, but way better than earlier games (but lets be honest, couldn't be much worse...lol)
Although there are several ways to get into the game, they all seem to come with similar road blocks, 'how do I do_____'. From dragging a person in medical training to trying to put a satchel charge on a communications hub, finding the right controls can be frustrating. Its made harder with the downloaded version and having to alt tab between the game and online manual.
Also trying to work out what level of graphics it can be played at.
This looks like a keeper though and if the multiplayer holds up, many hours of life in the game.

| Yea enjoying the demo for the most part. VERY in depth game. Like Mustang said the controls are a little out of control because there is literally so much you can do. Some how ended up in a menu where I was deploying defenses with money. Havent gotten a chance to play the demo online since the servers have been full, but I am hoping that is where the action will be. | |

| To be honest my time in demo lasted only 10 minutes. I found the head bob and sluggish controls too much to deal with. I went into options and turned off the head bob slider, but it still was bad enough to make me uncomfortable. That and the screen blur if you even just slightly turn in any direction quickly.
I've done hundreds of hours of CQB stuff before and it's not like that. If they did it for "realism" then they really missed the boat on that one. -- "One can lead a child to knowledge, but one cannot make him think."

| I spent about 2 hours in the ARMA 2 demo this morning after work because WOW was down for maintenance.
I liked the realism. The Marine's gear looks exactly like what I wear--straight down to the dump pouches and throat protectors on the Interceptor. Too bad they put Aimpoint optics instead of RCOs on the M16s. It was impossible to estimate range without the computer-assisted ranger finder. I especially missed a manual range finder on the sniper rifle--you either guessed how far up you had to aim or cheated and used whatever number the computer fed you. They missed the mark there. And the SAW gunner reloading in a fraction of a second? Don't think so.
What I did hate was the communication system. Objectives were easy to miss and my calls for help went unheeded. I also don't like the Rainbow Six-type way of equipping any weapon you wanted.
I definitely preferred America's Army's (I played 1.0) way of assigning billets, as well as it's easy-to-memorize automated radio messages.
I thought the voice clipping was lame. I understand you want every voice message to be customized to whatever grid you are at, but the pre-recorded samples were bad. VERY bad. Enough to destroy the immersive feel of the demo.
All in all, it was a cool idea, and moving around was slightly less cumbersome than Close Combat: First to Fight. However, I have to prefer CC:FF, despite of the console feeling to it--the voice acting was so cheesy here that it became impossible for me to play.

| Like the last 57 games these guys have made, it's brilliant and miserable all in one package. The user interface is almost as dangerous as the enemies, and you'll spend more time fighting your command controls than enemy machine gunners.
That said the updated graphics are great, and the open world feel is the same great stuff. There's some additional new base building stuff in there as well.
But the bugs. Ugh. Your own support transports will run you over, enemies will shoot you from a mile away through high grass before you see them, and several campaign missions are utterly broken. As in, spend a few hours working through objectives only to have the whole thing grind to a halt.
I'm not even sure they fully bug test these games before release. I think they just let the mod community fix things. My advice would be to wait a few months before picking this up.

While it is fun, I am going to wait and start playing this when the bugs are hashed out. Right now, I am enjoying Prototype a lot and I have Fallout in the queue. -- My domain - Nightfall.net

| Re: ARMA2 2 Days! There is something there buried in the mess that's truly brilliant. They really have simulated war in an entire country to an unprecedented degree....but again, the problem is they have No apparent quality assurance in place of any worth.
Over the next year I'll be interested to see what the mod community does with the game. Right now I'm putting it on the shelf.

I believe Arma was made by the members or some members of the OFP team. If so, they dropped the ball...
