If so, that sucks big time! yes, you are not missing anything. vista ultimate users, as it appears, will have no choice in the upgrade procedure but to use the win 7 ultimate upgrade if you wish to keep your existing programs/settings installed. additionally, it doesnt appear this "discount" applies to win 7 ultimate upgrade. so, with that, im in no rush to "pre-order" anything at this point. If it makes you feel any better, Ultimate doesn't bring a whole lot to the table over Professional. I run Ultimate on a few PCs and I'm going to replace it with Professional. i know it doesnt, but as far as the upgrade advisor and some forum members are concerned, i cant upgrade to win7 pro from win vista ultimate... -- ☺ |

Yeah, that part makes no sense to me either. Hopefully there will be a workaround. I highly doubt it. A fresh install would be the only option in that case. It's like trying to do an in-place upgrade of Vista Ultimate to Vista Business... just as with Business, Windows 7 Professional is considered a "downgrade" from Vista Ultimate. I never saw any workaround for Vista and I'm guessing the same will be true with Windows 7 |
