I have downloaded well over 5G a month for the past 2 months and no warning. I have already this month done 4 gigs.

Not that I do this on a regular basis, but every few months I do.

MC with sprint

Mooch and dMarks make good points, WellCrap. Is your friend using SP or VZ? The way to tell is by the device. If it's a Sierra device, or a Franklin CDU680, they are probably on SP. If it's a Pantech, they are on VZ. Another way to tell is to go to »speedtest.net and run a test. The 'results' box will show which net you are on.

Now, having said all that, it is starting to look like the VZ customers are under far greater scrutiny from VZ regarding excess usage than are the SP customers. This is based on reports and postings in various threads here at DSLR. While no one is saying NO SP customers have been 'warned,' the preponderance of these warnings seem to be going to VZ customers. Just WHY VZ is better at this than SP, no one has ventured a guess here that I've seen.

Eventually, SP will catch up, and caps will have to be installed, or tiers of service offered, to deal with those abusive customers who clog the bandwidth, as for example your buddy who keeps his torrents open. BTW, it's total usage, not just upstream, that counts.

It's interesting that you mention that your friend has been similarly warned by other ISP's about his abusive usage, but nevertheless continues to do so. Is your friend a slow learner? Or a digital sociopath who doesn't give a rat's patooty about how their actions affect the rest of us? I don't believe it is your friend alone who is responsible for the situation, but rather, a whole class of users of a similar profile, all of which adds up to logjam, and eventually usage caps.

Please tell your friend we all send our thanks.

I've heard of VZW users getting warnings. Never Sprint. I would have a letter from Millenicom by now - and if they do send me that letter, consider it cancelled. I do have other choices.

Have to agree with Mooch. Is this person in fact a person using a Sprint device?

A forwarded email isn't exactly proof here as anybody could do such. Personally, I'm waiting to see what they do after my downloading I did this month. I've definitely gone over 5GB. I'm over double that right now, though not by too much. If they're indeed sending emails to Sprint users now, then I should be receiving one soon. I'll make sure to let people know if I do.

I know this a Sprint forum but wanted to verify that your friend is using the SPRINT network with Millenicom and not Verizon.

But their main concern is the upstream. I know he likes to keep torrents open - which is stupid, and he's gotten emails like this from other ISPs in the past because of it.

I haven't gotten a warning yet...but the only thing I do that might be taboo for upstream is magicJack. Even then, I'm not on the phone that much. We'll see.
