3 edits | The Telus iPhone? Maybe Howard forums has posted that Telus may be offering the iPhone in October, one month after they go GSM, here is the link: »www.howardchui.com/2009/06/22/is···o-telus/
Apparently the iphone is not exclusive to Rogers, the problem here is Telus is part of the big 3 cartel, I cant see Telus being anymore generous then Rogers. As the timing goes just maybe Telus will have to make some kind of a peace offering because Globalive has targeted a GSM start up around October (give or take). As much as Id love to have an iphone, its starting to look like things are going to heat up in the next little while, just maybe right now is not a good time to buy the iphone even thought there is a 6 gig promo around for a limited time, is there anything Telus can offer that is different such as a 1 or 2 year contract, Telus just loves 3 year contracts as much as Rogers, but for many people the 3 year contract along with SAF is a deal breaker , I love the iphone, but I can take it or leave it.

| Re: The Telus iPhone? Maybe Im with you Elwood, right now you dont see much in price or attitude change with the big 3, but it seems like the retention departments are working overtime, like it goes, its easier retaining a customer then finding a new one, I think something is going to give in the next 60 days. | |

| Re: The Telus iPhone? Maybe what kind of coverage is Telus going to have one month after launch??...from what i recall, they were only going to offer the HSPA coverage to start at the Olympics (unless this is a network wide deployment, but i don't think it is)...so while they may offer the device, it may be somewhat like the "old" Fido was...you could use it in the city, but that's it (and a limited number of cities). -- Today's motto: Dearly beloved, We are gathered here today to bid farewell to personal responsibility and accountability. | |

| There are two problems, first is the telus iphone won't be able to fall back onto the CDMA network, whereas the fido/rogers iphone can fall back onto GSM.
Secondly, tethering on telus costs $8 per megabyte, whereas with fido/rogers it is included in the data plan.
Telus still can't compete.

That's not exactly true. Rogers said it's included in the data plan until 2010. Who knows what'll happen after that. Anyone who wanted to tether previously would have to jailbreak their phone to do it.

It's true there may be an additional charge in the future ($5/mo maybe?), heck telus might even lower its prices from $8/MB (it would surprise me tho)... Anything is possible. But as it stands now, tethering is included on all data plans above 1GB.

| Re: The Telus iPhone? Maybe Yes, GSM phones will work on TELUS's HSPA network, that is one of the primary reasons it was built, is to leverage the wholesale/roaming market that Rogers is cashing in on. Carriers like Virgin Mobile generate millions in revenue for Rogers every year. | |

@telus.net | Re: The Telus iPhone? Maybe There will absolutely not be any GSM network deployed by Telus. Only HSPA. Telus has been very clear on this point.
All phones that have HSPA also have GSM, but the GSM part will only be used for roaming outside of Canada.

It is if GSM modules are installed on the network, everything except the air interface is shared in a GSM network so all you need to do is add modules for GSM and if AnonMobileGuy works for Telus it could very well be true. See: [HSPA Frequently Asked Questions]
quote: One of the most important characteristics of 3GSM and HSDPA is that it has been developed to be backward compatible with GSM systems, which have been deployed by 680 operators in more than 200 countries and territories. This interoperability of systems and services will ensure the continuation of the worldwide roaming experience users have enjoyed with GSM.

| The interesting thing here is, how is Telus going to handle the iphone affair, I was a Telus customer for 7 years before I moved to Rogers, I found the Telus business practices just as bad as Rogers, but the Telus attitude change was starting to happen in 2005 I found, it started to change to a Rogers attitude, I dont know if Telus has changed in the last 4 years, but if the Telus iphone package is on about par with the Fido package, I would tend to go with the Fido/Rogers package just because the CSR are still in Canada (but this could change), Im a bit of a stickler dealing with off-shore CSR's that I can hardly understand and Id rather see these jobs in Canada. | |

| Would this Telus iPhone end up being released across the country or only in specific regions?
My contract is up early next year and the iPhone is the one issue that makes me even think about switching
