Re: [Newsgroups] Blocknews Block Prices Slashed - 200 Gigs $25

Actually same result as Astraweb...the issue was on my end - specifically a particular setting within Alt.Binz. A few incomplete rars which were easily reparable with par files. The same rars were affected with either service.

Still the experience was very good and I'm happy to give it a go.

Very smooth and easy. Got what I was looking for.
Good to hear and welcome aboard! J/w...was the set of articles completely unrepairable with Astraweb? Was it incomplete with us, but still repairable?

Very smooth and easy. Got what I was looking for. Look forward to continuing w/this and Astraweb. Block accounts are key for me.

I know if I have questions you'll be here to respond, which I call good service.

Is Blocknews now using the same backend as usenetnow?
Yes, that was the ultimate goal since late last year...but hang ups along the way with various things (from billing to programming to outright costs) always prevented us from being able to fully switch.

Signed up for a block account. Had some difficulty with a few articles (225 days old) on Astraweb. I am happy with Astraweb, but figure no harm in trying out Blocknews. Maybe you will be able to help with this particular set of articles. Been downloading more than normal lately so another 200GB is nice to have. I'll set it up with my newsreader tonight and check it out.

I'm on Astraweb because everything I want to download always downloads fine on it and the price is good. Oh well, might as well try your service when my service is up. 12 gigs left.

What should make me favor this over Astraweb. 20GB extra is nice but that isn't going to make me switch just like that.
Good question...Well, 20 GBs MORE is nice, right? Going by todays projected figures, another 35 days more retention in the end, is always good (400 versus 365). Support on the weekend is good, if you should need it.

I assume you (or any other customer) switched to Astraweb at some point because you were able to get more for less right? Isn't that the issue you are faced with once again? What made you switch then?

We are toying with the idea of the web /cell phone reader as another little toy to play with for Block account users.

Correct, but like before, the accounting is done pre-usage stats..In other words, the figure reflected as what you have used in the account center has header allotment figured in. We may end up deciding to just make headers free though.
So if I understand correctly the 200GB plan has the 10% counted in and therefore it is really 180GB?
Nope...For example, if you use 1 GB right now, roughly 900 megs gets counted / transferred over by the readers and reported to the account center. The traffic as you use it is discounted. Use roughly 500 megs now, in the end, about 450 gets accounted for.

Pretty much the same features as when I told you about Usenetnow..except you get 50 connections and no bandwidth limits with block accounts.
Does that mean you aren't capping to 40mbps like before?
Correct. Bandwidth speed limits are not in place.
Kudos!
Another good service that *ISN'T* highwinds doing some decent deals!

Good catch, and yes, 10% headers are figured in.
So that means that the 200GB with an extra 10% is 220GB with Headers?

Even though I use Astraweb, it's great to see some good competition against them and I wish you the very best of luck!

Very nice. Giving Astraweb a run for their money. Glad to see you have 50 connections however your website says-

- Up To 20 Connections!
Good catch, and yes, 10% headers are figured in.

Also do you get an extra 10% for Headers like Usenet-News gives you?
