| Cogeco Usenet Speed Alrighty, just a quick question here. I'm using usenetserver.com's service with my Cogeco standard internet connection. My connection is apparantly 10mbs but I never go past 1.2 megs. Is it really throttled that much and is anyone else getting better speeds? | |

Your connection is rated as 10mbit, your nzb client rates your downloads in megabytes. Your connection is capable of a max speed of ~ 10mbit/8 ~= 1.2MBps.
So no, it's not throttled, it's just the varying ways of displaying bandwidth, megabits, megabytes. 8 bits in a byte, so you have to divide by 8.

Most people don't realize they can bump up the amount of connecctions, which is required to attain high speeds with any usenet provider I've used in the past few years. Are you using more than one connection? Since bumping mine up to 20 I get 1.6 ~ 1.7 any time of the day. When it was lower, I had the same slow speeds.
