Reliable nationwide internet access?

I've got a bit of an odd request. I'm looking for some form of wireless internet access that will work literally anywhere in the US and while on the move. I'd venture a guess this means satellite. That's fine except from what I've seen satellite is rather expensive and while I know there are auto rotating dishes for TV on an RV, I'm not sure if such a device exists for internet. Likewise the stationary dish is huge I've heard.

What I want to be able to do is have internet access anywhere and have it while moving. I'd like something with no caps as I plan to upload a streaming video during the day (two cameras will be local and I want to upload their video to a dedicated server). I know Sprint has unlimited data but I don't know about their coverage in the middle of nowhere. I might or might not be traveling by interstate but if my cell phone is any indication there are plenty of areas with no signal.

What other options do I have? A last resort option I'm holding on to is caching the data and uploading it at night via the hotel/truck stop wifi connection but I'd really like it to be streaming "live" (obviously with a slight delay in there). I'll be in a standard pickup truck but I'll need the bed space.

Already been on those sites before asking the question. Thanks though. I should also point out that Verizon and AT&T both have caps which would prove detrimental to the monthly bill lol.

Unfortunately cellular is really your only option. There are high-end professional and military-grade satellite options, but unless you want to spend thousands of dollars a day, not really good ones.

Yeah that's what I suspected. I was hoping someone knew about something else but it doesn't look that way.

Hi,

Just a thought, Are there still satellite phones? And would they hook up to a laptop? They used to give you international service..

I am old school and probably outdated...

Old school maybe, but not outdated.

As far as I know, satellite phones still exist. They are truly the only "global" phone because supposedly they should work pretty much anywhere. Unfortunately I've heard their voice rates are something like a buck a minute. I'd be afraid to see what their data rates are. I'm going to dig more into the Sprint unlimited TOS. I'm sure what I want to do with it will be prohibited but oh well. I think I'm at the point of saving the camera footage and uploading it at night via WiFi.

Well it looks like Sprint has canceled the unlimited data and even so their TOS states: "....other systems that drive continuous heavy traffic or data sessions, or as substitute for frame relay connections."

Looks like there is no option for this at this time.

Millenicom appears to be selling an unlimited plan for $70 that uses Sprint. However I'm not sure about what'll happen if you roam onto Alltel or Verizon...they'll probably cut you off.

There are a few other companies that resell Sprint/Verizon/ATT service and might get you an unlimited aircard package, which you could then hook up to a better antenna and possibly get halfway decent high-speed coverage. There's Accell Wireless (I think that's the name) and Cyberionic ($90).

But even with the aircard packages and an antenna, you will run into areas that won
t have a high-speed signal, and even some areas with no signal at all (or areas that have no CDMA signal, or no GSM signal).

In short, the US is a big country, and no option exists for high-speed mobile data everywhere, particularly if you want it for a decent price without a 5GB cap.
