[Rant] USPS is the worst.

So for some stupid reason i opted to choose 5 day shipping on some blu-ray movies i bought from Amazon.com.

They shipped it USPS which for some reason it used to be UPS, so I thought whats the worst that can happen.

So they tried to deliver it yesterday, I was home, looked out window saw the lady actually scanned the package, threw it in back of car, filled out those "pick up at post office" slips and put it in mailbox.. So not only did she "fail to deliver it" she did not even TRY to deliver it to me, it would of taken her 5 seconds to run from road to front door. So now I have to drive 15min out of my way to get 3 movies.

What makes this more annoying is she put the delivering time as 8:30am, when she was here at 11am. So it makes her seem like she is ahead of the game. So if I did not see that she was outside house then a person could easily assume its at the post office by now and go pick it up, now knowing it was already that late. So it would still be in her car making delivery to other places.

I hate USPS. Heaven forbid they actually deliver stuff.

Wasn't there a "re-deliver" option on the slip?

I would have had her re-deliver (or just plain deliver) those movies, just on principle. Especially since she might one day deliver a package I actually care about, and want right away.

There's no time like the present to lean on people a bit in order to get them to do what they get paid for. It's sad that it comes down to that sometimes, (I mean, the carrier gets paid for eight hours of work regardless) but it does.

When I was in college, our mail delivery started slowing down to where we were getting no mail (not even junk mail) for several days, then the box would be crammed full. It took a few weeks for us to figure it out, but apparently our carrier was going out for her route and not actually delivering the mail. We complained (I'm sure we weren't the only ones) and had a new mail carrier the next week!

The postal worker for my house at least brought the box to my front porch, where he basically dropped / tossed it from three feet up.

I'm glad it was just a couple of heatsinks, well packed, but still.

What makes you think the OP wouldn't have a webcam installed on the front porch the next day?

Can I be honest here?

I could forgive that carrier anything if only he did not insist on perpetuating the fashion atrocity of full-length blue/black socks with shorts.

(Neutral-colored ankle socks, people, ankle socks.)

I PREFER the USPS when it comes to delivering packages. I have never had any problems with them but I have had a million with UPS and FedX. I live in a condo and we have lockers for packages that will not fit in our very generous sized mailboxes. (We have the nicest mailboxes on this island the local delivery manager told me and we building occupants all love them). If a box is too large to put in the mailbox and I am not home then the box is placed in one of the large lockers and the key to the locker is placed in my mailbox. It is a fantastic system and I never have to go to the post office to get a package or ask for re delivery, etc.

Now FedX and UPS...they have some weird notion that the only time they should deliver is at 8:30AM or 7PM. I am asleep at 8:30 and never hear them knock (I get up at noon). I always am away from the house at 7PM. So, those two carriers don't care if the package is stolen. They sit it in public view on the walkway! If it is a signature required package then you cannot reach FedX on the phone (they use ground delivery which has no phone number to call and the local FedX office will not discuss FedX ground with you as they are FedX Air). So, I have had packages I was desperate for go back to the sender because of this stupidity.

As for UPS, I have never had ground delivery from them and all second day air delivery I give the sender the UPS office as my address. That way the package is waiting for me to pick up at the UPS office after they call to tell me it is here. I had to do this because of UPS leaving packages on the walkway where they were stolen (and because of the extreme heat in their trucks).

Another great thing about USPS is that their vehicles are open air so packages do not reach damaging temperatures of 140 degrees and above like they do in the UPS and FedX trucks. So, USPS is, for me, far superior to UPS and FedX. I won't buy anything (with rare exceptions) from a company if they will not agree to use USPS.

forgot to mention, be thankfull you dont have a clusterbox!! last place i lived in we had a cluster box and the carier wasnt smart enough to realize if a box barely fit in the back it WONT be coming out the front.. orderd a product that was gel based. wouldnt come out the front, they refused to come out that day. debated for about a seccond about saying id use a crowbar to get my package. instead i went up to the box with a knife and plyers. thankfully the headstart nextdoor was closed or that could have been realllly ugly.

It's the same thing you have basically. We've got them at my office and I too have gotten a key stuffed in my box with a package in one of the four large lockers at the bottom. But there's the problem, there's only four of them and there are a couple dozen tenants at the office complex. Guess what I get in the box instead of the lockers are used up? Yep, one of those "sorry we missed you" letters.

Sometimes they will deliver to your door though but that seems to be hit or miss. We had a certified letter come one day and they came to the door for a signature. Similarly I ordered the Priority Mail flat rate boxes and they were delivered to the door (granted they were too big to fit the large lockers anyway). The annoying part is if you do have to go to the PO to pick something up, our mail is held at the main PO downtown, ugh.

I've had that happen in Atlanta before. What's worse is that the time it takes them to fill out that form, they could have gotten off their ass and come to the door. But no, they prefer to sit on their ass in that truck. Even if they toss it at the door, at least I've got my package and if it's damaged then they get to pay out the insurance on it.

I've had lots of damaged shipments with UPS lately (me as the shipper) so I started putting $300 insurance on it (previously it was only the $100 free insurance). I intend to collect the full $300 for EVERY damaged package. I can get away with it too because what I ship is a kit and even if only one small part appears to be damaged, I don't know what else has "hidden" damage. I can't expect my customer to diagnose it so I'll send them a complete new kit and hope it doesn't get damaged too. Once I get it back I can then diagnose it and decide what to do with the rest of the contents.

Last week a buddy of mine sent two packages (huge ones) parcel post from the east coast. They take 10 days. Got the first one yesterday and I am thnking I will get the second one Monday.. Thats 5/6 days. Not bad..

If you actually watched her scan and return the box and then fill out the slip and place it on your box, please tell us why you didnt just open the door and take the package?

You say UPS but then you talk about $100 free insurance which sounds like USPS so which do you mean?

UPS also offers similar insurance.

From the UPS Tech Tip Page: Get extra protection for your valuable shipments

quote:
Every UPS domestic package or international shipment is automatically protected, at no additional charge, against loss or damage up to $100 without the shipper's making a declaration of value. But if you want to make sure, additional protection on packages valued at up to $50,000 is available using the Declared Value option from UPS Internet Shipping. It's quick and easy:

I mean UPS as in United Parcel Service. As shown above UPS has $100 insurance for free. Though their description of it isn't exactly correct. UPS says "without the shipper making a declaration of value". But If I stick any number in the value field, up to and including 100 I don't get charged anything. 101 to 300 is the same fee so I put 300 on everything now. Also, USPS doesn't have a straight $100 free insurance, from what I have seen, their free insurance goes by weight of the package. A 25 pound package will have more free insurance than a 5 pound package.

Thanks for clarifying that. USPS used to have the first $100 of insurance as free on packages but I haven't mailed any in awhile that I have insured so maybe they no longer have that. It used not be based on weight but it may be now.
