Around here (San Diego area), you can buy tons of DSL modems (including ones with a good reputation, such as the SpeedStream 5100b, 4100 and 4100b) for $5 or less (sometimes as low as $1). Among the ones I've purchased, there has not been a bad one, but, at these prices, even if one is bad, not a lot has been wasted.
Except for a few oddballs that are locked into MSN or some other service, pretty much any ADSL modem can be set up for use on AT&T- you don't even require an ADSL2+ model, since AT&T isn't presently using that protocol. |
