Re: [Serious] Dr. Jerri Nielsen FitzGerald, RIP

Yes, I remember this well. I was so impressed with her.

IMHO, although I am sorry that Farrah Fawcett & Michael Jackson passed, I feel that the world is poorer off without folks like Dr. Fitzgerald, who willingly put herself in a dangerous position, in order to conduct studies that ideally might result in discoveries that would benefit us all.

I mostly agree with your thoughts, Pete.

I was so impressed with Dr. Fitzgerald; an amazing woman, to say the least! I can't imagine doing my own biopsy and starting my own chemotherapy. And after her return, she worked to help others who were going through the same thing.

I'm relieved for Farrah Fawcett, for her sake. She put up a monster battle to try and survive, to no avail. She was an incredibly talented lady, and she did right to prove to the world that she was more than just a blonde "Angel." Now she's at peace.

As far as MJ is concerned, I'll pretty much keep my thoughts to myself. He showed the world how to truly waste talent and money, and I've always felt immensely sorry for his kids. I hope Debbie gets her kids back now, and can move them on to a path of normalcy, which they didn't have with him. I don't know who will get the youngest child, but I hope that someone will have some sense and raise him properly too.

Yes. I do not want to be negative about those who have passed, and after all, I really only know the same superficial stuff that we all get to see...both good and bad. I meant no swipe at either F.F., or M.J., may they R.I.P.!

Although I enjoy music, and other "Arts", I am just not one of those people who particularly idolize them. I am much more impressed by those who dedicate their lives/careers to the sciences, especially when those breakthroughs might save tens of thousands, or even millions of people!

For example, is there a performer today...or at any point in history, that would even remotely approach Dr. Jonas Salk in terms of having an important role in the lives, and quality of life of millions? Who knows what may have occurred in my own life? I liked the music of John Lennon, Janis Joplin, etc., but I am waaay happier that I never had to deal with polio in my life...as a T2 Diabetic, I am eternally grateful for whoever developed Glucophage/Metformin, for example, as this directly affects the quality of my life...daily!

That is not to imply that Doctors or Scientists/Researchers are intrinsically "better" human beings...but I do place them on a higher pedestal in terms of relative importance to mankind.

Amen to all of the above.
