 | "I'm a Celebrity..get me outta here!" TV show - MIA? HHmm...I was watching that show, at least a few episodes, and learned that the final show would be on I think Wed nite at 8 on NBC.
I tried to tune into see that show, but it wasn't on, instead it was a dumbass show called "Fireworks" from Detroit.
???
Is there - was there a prolbem with that episode as it wasn't shown on our Cogeco cable? Anyone else in other areas get to see it maybe?
Just trying to understand what happened here....was the final show "censored" in some way?
???

peterboroPremium join:2006-11-03 Peterborough, ON | They do some kind of synchronous switching with American feeds. I had a thread on it a while back as they are chopping sections of the shows off and still are.
There could have been a foul up with the switching request. I gave up on anything being done about it as with the UBB they don't care anymore. |

exsevenPremium,VIP join:2003-05-23 Beamsville, ON kudos:1 | Cogeco just does a switch when asked by the channel. if you have a complaint about how shows run long call the broadcaster and ask why 9:05-9:35 is now an acceptable time. You either miss the end of one show or the beginning of another... thats not cogeco's fault.
The final show can be seen on Much More Music, NBC detroit probably decided to show the fireworks from wednesday instead of the finale, again not a cogeco issue just the channel you tried to watch decided to change its programming (and the detroit fireworks is very big in the area i hear) |

You either miss the end of one show or the beginning of another... thats not cogeco's fault. I remember looking something up last time about this switching issue. It is mandated by the CRTC.
Also it is incumbent upon the cable company to make sure there is a synchronous situation before the switch takes place.
Which Cogeco does not always do. Sometimes, but not often, 5 minutes or even whole shows are not broadcast. Apparently this information is provided to the cable companies in advance so Cogeco can not argue some of these are last minute things.
Most often lately I have noticed the last 5 to 30 seconds of a show chopped off. Sometimes the beginning. No big deal most of the time. But sometimes it matters.
If Cogeco wants to run a cable tv network the least they can do is follow the rules at a minimum.
As we have seen lately customer satisfaction is being usurped by profits. Look at Bells reputation. You don't need a crystal ball to see what's coming our way.
Edit: I am just waiting for any UBB to show up on my bill and I am gone from Cogeco to Nexicom. Who in parts of Peterborough have a lot better service, prices and no caps. This is the type of shit that pisses people off and makes it so easy to switch. |

| reply to JVRudnick Chances are the NBC Detroit decided to pre-empt the I'm a Celebrity coverage for the Fireworks, because I'm on Starchoice myself and found the exact same issue....
It sucked, but hey what can you do? Chances are anyone who recieved their feed from NBC-WDIV in Detroit ran into the same issue.
Again, not a Cogeco issue, not a CRTC issue, but simply an issue where the broadcaster decided to broadcast whatever they wanted.
Since MMM is not an OTA station, their ability to have programs simsubbed is very limited even if they ran it at the same time. You'll typically see this mostly when Auto Racing and golf are on, example Fox. You'll see a TSN logo on the TSN channel, but a Fox logo on the Fox channel as TSN does not have simsub rights even though they've purchased the rights in Canada, its weird, but meh.
Cogeco recieves the requests from the broadcaster days in advance because of the time required to input the data for the substitution to take place. Its not an easy thing to do, and is it perfect? no...but again Cogeco is following the broadcasters request and simply fullfilling the mandate of their license.
Now, if the broadcaster makes a last minute change, it may not get noticed instantly, because there are so many channels in so many areas not 1 person can watch them all, all the time. So, mistakes do happen, its part of life and no big deal . |

 | reply to JVRudnick all of which, while most likely true -- sucks big time for us viewers.
why doesn't Cogeco then add say Boston NBC or Buffalo NBC, or some other feed too....
would help, I'd think....
stupid is as stupid does, eh!

What bothered me was I was loosing the last 5 minutes of Lost every week. Anyone who watches knows it is hard to keep up with at the best of times. I can just see how a call to the broadcaster would go. Laughter, then f--k off. |

Jim Cost more than likely. They have Headend facilities in Windsor, pick it up over the air, and put it on the fibre and send it out.
But if memory served me correctly, I thought in Hamilton it used to be NBC from Buffalo....or Burlington/Waterdown area, wherever you are ...
I could be wrong on that one. Something may have changed, it might be less cost effective to have 2 Headends pick up what is in essence the same channel, minus some programming differences of course.
I believe also as a condition of license that they can only have 1 of the US 4+1 feeds in any given BDU area. So it doesn't give them the ability to add an additional feed in. |

 | WDIV Channel 4 Detroit delayed the Wednesday evening lineup for the fireworks, and started broadcasting it at 1:35am on Thursday for anyone with a video recorder.
I can recall they announced it several times during the fireworks display. |

... which is rather odd, since I think Rogers now uses Buffalo HD feeds in the GTA, yet Cogeco stays with Detroit. I could be wrong on that though.
Hell, I remember the days when we used to get Erie, PA affiliates in Niagara. Those went away a long time ago. Rogers still carries Rochester in Durham Region, albeit on a digital tier. -- I swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, Queen of Canada, Her Heirs and Successors, and that I will faithfully observe the laws of Canada and fulfil my duties as a Canadian citizen. |
